Muzzle break??
So, my 14 year old, 90lb daughter got drawn for a cow elk hunt this November/December.
I have a 257 Weatherby she will be shooting.
Guys in my hunting party have added muzzle breaks and have been impressed with the reduction of recoil.
I know the .257 is not a large recoil for most, but I want me daughter to enjoy shooting.
I hope to keep the muzzle break sleek, I don’t want to look like we are roasting marshmallows at the end of the barrel.
I also accept the fact that we will probably need to wear hearing protection.
Other than that, I’m open to advice.
So, what advice can thee give?

Re: Muzzle break??
If she has been shooting and practicing with that rifle and doing well, then why bother with the time/money to install a muzzle brake, when she probably will be taking one to two shots at a Elk ?
Better off taking time to practice with her on shooting from field positions, as she might have on the hunt.

Unfortunately, She hasn’t been shooting the rifle.
She has a 243, but I would like to mover her up to the .257

Re: Muzzle break??
Add the muzzle break, she'll be glad you did. I added muzzle breaks to all 3 of my deer rifles, reduced recoil better than 50%.
Who notices the loadness with shooting at game anyway?

Re: Muzzle break??
Are we talking muzzle "break" or what it really should be called.....a "muzzle brake"?
Never seen a muzzle take a break.
RL: Varmint Shooter is correct, add the brake to make the rifle more comfortable for your daughter, she'll never know the difference in the excitement of the shot anyway. BUT, guys at the range will not appreciate the addition at all if they are sitting at the next bench.
