my latest prizes....

Post by huntsman22 »

Picked up a 1941 first series Colt Woodsman Sport model last week. It came in a nifty old leather shaving kit with a minty Heiser holster and extra mag. Should come in handy if skippy and his sapper pals breach the perimeter.....

This week I was on a lever gun quest. Grabbed a 1966 Marlin Mountie. Great condition overall, but stocks were scratched. Sandpaper and tru-oil have her looking sharp once again.......

With a redfield 2x7 mounted, she should take care of any skwirl that would dare to show his face.......

Sweet! New toys! That Woodsman looks to be in great condition, it should save your ankles from skippy attacks. Gary

Don: Those are some nice finds indeed! I'm lusting after a Woodsman too.....in a moment of weakness I allowed a Third Model Woodsman to leave my hands about 20 years ago....I'm still having sellers remorse on that one. I've had the hots for a 4" Target 3rd Model for a long time, but they're going for $1,200 now!

If I'm as fortunate as you to come by another one, I'll be a happy camper. Congrats on the finds....especially that little Woodsman! :D

Thanks, Rick and Gary. It's obvious that the pair of you have sophisticatedly good taste.......RIO, I'm kinda partial to the first series pistols, but have sold off most of my collection. I'm down to a 3rd series Huntsman, a 1927 pre-Woodsman, and now this Sport.

Don: Congrats on first blood with the new rifle. Now it's a good kitty. (There's a few around here I'd like to see in the same pose.....)

My wife has a Woodsman Second Series Match Target with the rare 4-1/2" barrel and the magazine release button on the left side of the frame. Four digit serial number has the "S" suffix. It has the original Coltwood plastic grips. It is equipped with a Micro Sight rear target sight (unfortunately), as she bought it from her boss at Micro Sight for $50.00, when she asked about how to get into bulls eye shooting. He had bought it as his first gun purchased when he worked for King Gun Sight in S.F. and sold it to her as a favor to a new shooter.

She wanted to sell it some years ago and purchase something a bit newer - I put the Kibosh on that idea and bought her another gun to go with it. Some day I gotta send it out for a tune up if I can find a Woodsman specialist.

That same boss sold her a Colt 1911 .45 accurized by Jack Gallaway of King Gun Sight and Micro Sight. She paid $100. The checkering job on the front strap is worth that much alone. She enjoys shooting although we don't get out as often today.

huntsman22 and RIO,

Shooting a cat is Democratic, like Pelosi said, "you have to vote on it to see what's in it". Well, you've got to shoot it to give it a breathalyzer to test for quail breathe, don't ya?

I had a 4 " Huntsman I traded several years ago and have regretted it ever since.
Enjoy it while you have it, because things will change.

Ahuuugrrrrrrrrr… Have no use for FERAL cats either. My well worn 39 Century Limited and a Gov. Model MK II Target have both taken out (owner’s request) many of the no longer loved plus several more obviously feral types but that little guy looks more like someone’s cared for pet…

Buddy here Image

has Kit & Kaboodle breath and that is all he will eat. He has twice come home with an butt load of bird shot but more than likely the shooter didn’t like Buddy banging or beatin crap out of their cats. He lives for both but based on the always fresh year round battle scars I think he had rather fight. I can’t blame the shooter.

Cats are tuff critters. I’ve had two take a Mini-Mag HP to the center of the head only to come stumbling back out of the woods a day or so latter. No brains to blow? After this happened a second time I started using 52 grain HP at ~3200 FPS. Much better result and after the owners watched kitty’s junk landing here and there and way up yonder they finally had the mama kittys fixed.

Nice guns and otherwise, good job.
