Looking at selling my savage 17 ang getting the 93btvs thumbhole accutrigger 22mag. Anyone have one of these? how does it shoot? Ive heard of some assembly problems and some barrels getting pushed by the stock. thanx.

Well I spent several months with a Savage in .17-HMR but ended up trading it off for something that would put down the critters around the place. The .22mag in the Savage 93 with heavy barrel does the job, especially now that Federal has come out with a 50-grain bullet for the .22mag.

In a word...."yes". At least in my Winchester 9422 Mag. They have much more authority at impact than any other 22WMR round I've ever used, and give "minute of rat" accuracy in both my 22 Mag rifles.

The Fed 50gr load really puts the 22 Mag in a new class. It's a great badger thumpin' load.

The 22mags a great round but I did watch a guy in Florida on youtube take down two pigs with the 17hmr each a single shot drop on the spot.

think ive settled on the 93r17 btvs thumbhole stainless. going to go order one in a day or two. $377 best deal i could find. Any accutrigger tips will be appreciated. Wish i had the money for a nice ruger 17 but just had a hip replacement (at age 31) and doctor bills are rolling in.

I've had my 93R17 BTVS for a couple of years now. The biggest thing that I can tell you is find the ammo it likes. It's taken me a while, and it seems that every rifle likes something different. I find the 17gr CCI TNT is the best in my rifle.

At 50 yards, I put three rounds into the same hole, and I couldn't figure out where the bullets were hitting, so I moved the elevation a click, and then hole just got bigger! Ohhh!

At 100 yards, on a good day for me, I can shoot sub .4" groups with it, again, with the proper ammo.

I don't hunt, I just shoot targets.

I have a Savage 93R17 in .17HMR & love it. It does not like the 17HMR's in 20grainers, more like a shotgun pattern than a rifle group. I finally settled on Winchester Supreme 17gr. & it shoots one ragged hole at 100 yards. I went Sage Rat shooting last Monday outside Burns, Oregon. A farmer I asked was happy to have me shoot off as many as I could find. I dispatched just under 300 Monday before I tired & went for food. The farmer said "Come back anytime", That was a great sound. Almost as good as the "whomp" I heard many many times that day. I am going to order the thumbhole stock for mine, It has a laminated factory gray one now but not thumbhole, love thumbhole stocks. Have fun shooting when you get your new 17HMR. Bi-Mart in my area ( Bend, Oregon) sells the Savage 93R17BTVS for around $275.00.

Accu trigger.Hate em of love em.A smith can remove the blade and set up a nice crisp trigger in the 2lb range.I may do that with my LRPV w/target trigger,for next years shoot.Takes some getting used to.Spoiled with a Jewel @9oz on my 243AI Rem/Hart.

I shoot a 22mag- an Anschutz 1720. It doesn't like the 50grainers too much from what I remember. The 30gr V-Max loads make bug holes at 50yds, and the 40gr CCI loads will shoot 1" at 100yds. I got the mag right before the hmr came out. Most hmr's will outshoot a 22mag as far as accuracy is concerned, but the mag still carries the weight down range better.

I just got one last week and it loves the 50 grainers and hate any of the hornday. Im shooting 1 inch group at 100 yards and .25 groups at 50 yards. Also have to say that stoping power on animals is much better than .17 hmr but the .17 will out shoot it hands down on gruop sizes.
