Re: Morning Rockchuck Walkabout

Thanks for the walkabout summary, Rick. What you describe is one of my favorite ways to "thin the herd" whether they number but a few to a target rich environment. The challenge of a spot and stalk and taking one's time has a certain appeal to me. Not that I will pass up a target rich envi...

Re: The Annual 2024 Rat Rodeo

Rick - Thank you for the update...and for the pictures of course! From all appearances it looks like a good time was had by all, except for the unfortunate critters who took the flying lessons. ;) Here in SW MT the spring weather hasn't quite caught up with the calendar as we are still waiting on a ...

Re: Gopher Shootin’ 2024

It's good to see a fellow Montanan who is able to give "flying lessons" to these furry little critters. As the breeding season is about to wrap up, the targets of opportunity my begin to diminish a bit so keep after them before they hunker down in their burrows. :wtg:

Fellow Members of this forum: I have benefited from the tremendous and willingly shared collective wisdom gained over their many years found within the pages of this forum and I too would like to see it continue into the future. There is merit in preserving this database of knowledge. If renaming th...

Re: Competition Month Poll

My hope is the Leupold scope I've been waiting on from Leupold will finally become available allowing me the time to get my Cooper MT Varminter 204R ready for the competition. If the timing doesn't work out, I'll choose another rifle and caliber. The waiting for this scope is agonizing... :wall:

Re: My New rifle and new member

This may be slightly off the original posting topic, but it does tie-in to the recent reloading conversation. While I have yet to jump on the reloading bandwagon, I am very appreciative of all the input from this membership with regards to the "recipes" that many of you have followed with ...

Re: RIP Master Scout Sniper Chuck Mawhinney

Rick. Thank you for posting this account and for sharing a behind the scenes look at a fellow Oregonian. While I have yet to read the book "The Sniper: The Untold Story of the Marine Corps' Greatest Marksman of All Time" , I have listened to the author (Jim Lindsay) tell the story of how h...

Re: Chucks

We are also in the "wait and see" mode in SW MT at the moment. Mother Nature provided another marginal fluffy white contribution to the water table overnight and judging by the surrounding drainages she has a long way to go to reach anything close to "normal" as the average snow ...

I'll cast my vote for the .224 calibers and smaller. In the final analysis, I plan to do my best with whatever qualifies. :yeah:

Re: Good bye Good luck saving your forum.

TK. If you do decide to saddle up your favorite steed and ride off into the sunset, I wanted to thank you for the albeit brief interactions we have engaged in over the past several weeks. Specifically, I appreciate you taking the time to help me identify a suitable 204R to grace my gun cabinet. Best...

Re: Small Caliber Posted Results Shoot 2024

I agree with Tom Kat, in that "This forum is on life support. Hopefully this will breathe some new life into it." Not to continue beating a dead horse, but if encouraging more people to participate is one goal of this competition, along with supporting healthy camaraderie, why not have cat...

Re: Small Caliber Posted Results Shoot 2024

I'll chime in with my two cents. :twocents: I like the idea of at least two classes of rifles in this shoot-off, although it does complicate things somewhat. One a bone stock (or at least as close to bone stock as the rifle existed when it first came from the factory) and a second class of either mo...

Re: Small Caliber Posted Results Shoot 2024

I too would welcome the opportunity to be publicly humbled by those with firearms capable of creating one jagged hole or something very close. My pride is not so fragile as to admit I ain't there yet, but one can aspire to greatness, can't they? The only caveat I would offer is winter still ...
