Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
New Kimber rifle update. After contacting my FFL about purchasing a Kimber Varmint in 204R with a walnut stock (not that the type of stock really mattered), they reached out to their Kimber Regional Sales Account Manager who told them the following; "We will not likely be building that rifle in...

Re: What's Your Carry of Choice
Since the question was asked about revolvers, here is one of mine that is carried when I'm in areas frequented by large furry creatures. Not exactly an EDC, but one that will get the job done when needed. Chambered in 357 magnum.

Re: Kimber contour Lilja barrel
K22,
Is the Lilja barrel still available? If so, I also wonder what is the overall length of the barrel in its current condition? Ideally, I would want the final finished length to be as close to 26 inches as possible. Thanks.

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
I appreciate all the helpful suggestions on how best to spend a few of my hard-earned silver certificates! :-) Yes, the Kimber did catch my eye due to the apparent build quality and now having a personal endorsement from Rick only adds to the allure of this rifle. I noticed on the "Swap Meet&qu...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
Now that we've established three rifle manufacturers are no longer providing the 204R as a factory option (Sako, Tikka, CZ) the only option to pick one up from one of these gun makers would be on the open market (eg. Gun Broker, Guns America, gun shops, pawn shops or private sellers). While the poss...

Re: Winter wonderland
Ha! Who knows, at some point I too may have to find another method of clearing snow off the driveway when the depth proves to be too much for the Polaris Ranger. The next logical step for me might be to equip my Ram 2500 diesel with a snow blade as I already have the tire chains. I've found if I don...

Re: Winter wonderland
I too gave up on downhill skiing some years ago. As I have come to learn, sometimes the hard way, it takes longer and longer to heal or mend this tired old body now that I've passed the senior citizen stage and approach the Grumpier Old Man stage. As for clearing snow I too have graduated to various...

Re: Load developmenbt progress
Rick, you certainly make a compelling argument on the merits of hand loading in order to wring the most accuracy out of a rifle and I am not slighting anyone for doing so. Quite the contrary, I get your point and I applaud and admire those who have the time and commitment to do so, and the results c...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
Rick, struck out again with the CZ 527. The CZ website shows the heavy barrel version of the CZ 527 Varmint as being discontinued in 2021. Apparently all three manufactures have dropped the 204R from their latest offerings. This makes the option of a build your own looking more and more attractive. ...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
Hi Rick and thank you for providing yet another factory 204R option to consider. That is a nice-looking rifle and it's hard to argue with the accuracy either. Out of curiosity I did visit both the Sako and Tikka (a close second cousin) websites to do a little window shopping and what I found was int...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
My sincere thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts, experiences and of course pictures of the various 204R build opportunities that exist. You've given me a lot to think about. While I have yet to assemble a custom-built rifle from scratch it does offer a unique opportunity to get something th...

Re: Load developmenbt progress
Thank you for keeping me in mind Bill K. Yes, I do find this very interesting on a number of levels. The rifle build, the cleaning process and the load development, although at present I am not going down that rabbit hole (load development and hand loading). In no particular order I'll provide my tw...

Re: A simple question for lurkers and active members-
I failed to also mention rock chucks, which can also be found in certain parts of MT although not always in as many numbers as those I mentioned in my earlier post, at least in the areas I primarily frequent. However, in certain parts of WY, (don't ask... ;)), that is another matter entirely and the...

Re: Winter wonderland
You are right...a good start. In our part of southwest MT, we generally get the moisture laden and heavy wet snows as we get closer to late Feb and early March. While the winter snows do somewhat contribute to a groundwater recharge, they generally don't bring with them lots of moisture, the ski are...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
To help whet the appetites of the assembled crowd, as you ponder the question I posed earlier, I thought I'd share a picture of a target rich environment or is it a picture of gun porn...you decide. Location is somewhere in the great state of WY.
