Re: 405 yard cow elk with 30-06

Jim - I'm so sorry that I didn't revisit this post earlier. Re mono-metal lead free bullets... I've only used the Barnes TSX on game. From my 25-06... It was slinging the 100 gr TSX at 3340 fps! The buck I took at very close range was an instant kill with massive damage to the heart. Maybe a 20-25 y...

Re: 405 yard cow elk with 30-06

Looks like a great hunt there, Guy. And way to go with the old smoke-pole that the Gen Z guys say is obsolete compared to those 300 SuperSilly Magnums.Tell that to that elk! No rifle magnums in my safe either, my 7-08AI, 270 Win and 338-06AI always seem to bring home the meat without beating me to ...

Thanks all! Glad I had a couple of strong, young fellows to help me on that hunt. :)

Re: New Forum Title?

Sometimes 40 seems like a long time ago. Other times, it's like it was just yesterday. I like the forum title, I just need to remember to get here more often. Haven't been shooting my 204 a lot, did shoot one rockchuck on a walking-varmint hunt last summer. The 35 grain Berger did a fine job. :) Inh...

405 yard cow elk with 30-06

Obtained an elk depredation permit to take one cow elk. With the help of two fit young men, I managed to stalk close enough for a 405 yard shot in a stiff crosswind with my 30-06 Remington 700. Results were good, and the meals so far have been excellent. The stalk was pretty tough, several miles of ...

Thanks. It was a short and simple hunt. And yes, the meals from that doe have been very good.

Re: New Forum Title?

I don't do as much varmint shooting as I would like, my 204 often just hangs out in the safe, waiting patiently to be put back in use.

I'm good with 20 cal anything. We already have areas for big game and such.

Re: No Deer but Birds?

Always loved hunting birds with my dad. These days I love hunting upland birds with my son. He started when he was much younger, but now in his 30's he enjoys hunting birds, particularly pheasant with me and with our dog. Anymore I generally use an 80-90 year old Remington 32 over & under 12 gau...

2022 Mule Deer with a 30-30 Lever Action

Well sadly this year my son struck out on his regular season mule deer hunt. He has an astoundingly accurate 7mm Rem Mag Bergara rifle and we were hoping he'd tag a nice buck this year. No luck. I had a late-season doe tag and though the hunt was in open sagebrush & bitterbrush country, I decide...

Guy : Good to see you back here on the forum, and nice to see you getting out after one of our favorite varmints. Your comment about favorite powders missing in the inventory rings true also. If there was ever a time to lay in significant amounts of our favorite powders, it has past. Prices now are...

Precision 223 Load, Article & Video

Thought I should share a very nice 223 load that I recently wrote about. Used Gavin's "223 Trainer" rifle to test it and shot a .053" three-shot group at 100 yards. It was gratifying to have a handload shoot so well. Link goes to the article and video: https://ultimatereloader.com/202...

Your're welcome. It was a fun video to make. We've covered a lot of different cartridges on Ultimate Reloader. I've got another video in the works re the 223 Remington with an exceptionally accurate load.
