Re: Muzzle brake on .22 cal. rifles?

My friend has one on his T/C 22-250 single shot. Nobody likes to shoot next to him wearing only ear plugs because it's so noisy. He has it so he can see the impact on his targets. I told him just get a .204 Ruger.

Re: Need a new rifle

I'd go with the 25.06. The 100 and 120 grain bullets will "buck" the wind better than the .243 bullets. Besides the usual makers like Rem, Sav., Rug, Brown., Tikka also look at CZ and Howa. I have one of each and they are both tack drivers and reliable. The CZ is a Mauser bolt (which I pre...

Re: 270 or 308 is better ?

Get a 30.06! Oh, wait that wasn't a choice. Heck if your only hunting deer buy the one that feels best to you and/or is the best price. Out to 300 yds no deer will no the difference. If your perhaps going for elk or biiig black bears I'd want a 30 cal. 165 or 180 X bullet. One thing nice about .308 ...

Re: Barrels & temps.

Hey Rick, good idea about the Quick Shade. I do have and normally-if we are camping-it is set up in camp for shade....ahhh, but now my stepdaughter has one and it's stored at my house, so I could bring it along :D . Hopefully my brother from MN will be out before March 31 (before our p-dog season cl...

Re: Barrels & temps.

Oh, man those flatbeds are super cooool! :D All you need is a large umbrella! My friend sets up a 7' tall umbrella and attaches it somehow to his chair when he shoots. I've asked him to make me one but so far I'm still sitting in the sun. :(

Re: 204 ruger vs 220 swift vs 22-250?

After I shot a 204 and 223 the same day I knew I wanted a 204. For me "long range" 400 yds. The 204 does great out to that distance. The recoil is so slight that I don't have any inclination to own a 22-250 (which I have shot) or Swift. And as one other guy mentioned, it is soooo easy to r...

Re: free recoil?

When I'm shooting the 22LR or 204 Ruger from a bench I try to keep my shoulder off the stock, even the slightest movement like that caused from breathing can cause enough movement to miss a p-dog a 250 yds on out. Of course with a larger centerfire I keep the stock against the shoulder nice and firm...

Re: Barrels & temps.

This thread is way over my head; physics, thermodynamics, sturctural integrity....-I'm just a simple salesman. For me I just go shooting when I have the opportunity-hot or cold ambient temp. If there is a prairie dog in the scope all the better! :D If my barrel gets too hot I slow the pace or eat a ...

Re: what primer to use

When first got a 204 I ran into the same thing as you. I had been told I could use "small rifle primers" so I bought Rem 6 1/2. Well for stick powders (like RL 15), they worked just fine..but with ball powders if I wanted to move a 32 V-Max at more than 3600 fps I ran into primers that wer...

Re: Dogtown 34 gr. reloads?

Thanks guys. Looks like the 4895 & RL 15 use the same powder charge but the 4895 produces an extra 100 fps, at least thats what it looks like in the Hornady book. So, I'll try 26.0 of RL 15 which should give me about 3475 (the 4895 would give 3575) and maybe go up to 27.0 gr. for about 3650. Hop...

Dogtown 34 gr. reloads?

Anybody have some starting loads with the Midway Dogtown 34 gr. 20 cal bullet? I have lots of Reloader 15 so I'd like to use that if possible. This is for the 204 Ruger of course. I bought these because they were $51 for 500 rounds. I don't expect them to be as accurate as the 32 or 40 V-Max, but ma...

Re: Fourth of July PDogs....a quick trip this AM.

You are making me drool. I have not yet been out for p-dogs this year. Seems like all my shootin' buddies have too many commitments...maybe I need some new friends. In your area how many shots a day is considered good? Over here in AZ if we get 100 in a day that is a lot. I'm talking ab...
