Re: 22o Swift vs 204 Ruger?

I shoot all three calibers, 204, 22-250 and 220 Swift. Despite what most people will say who never shoot all three at range the 204, 40 gr is the hands down winner. Check the ballistics, energy and wind deflection at 500+ yards. The 204 rules beyond 500 yds and is comparable to the other calibers fr...

Re: 32 V-Max Coyote

The 32 gr v-max of BK is pleanty for a coyote out to 350-400 yards. The 40 Gr V-Max or 39 gr BK is good on a coyote out to 500+ yds. The CZ is an excellent rifle. Be safe and enjoy the hunt.

Thanks, for the link and article which explains why and how the fluted barrel enhances cooling.

Re: Fluting a factory barrel

Fluting is not just to reduce weight. Cutting an inch off the barrel, which I beleive is misguided advice, will cost you approximately 30-40 fps in velocity. Shortening the barrel will not overcome the second and perhaps most important benefit of fluting which is to increase the external surface are...

Re: Help me choose a rifle in .204

Varmonter: A sub-caliber shot is not necessairly one-hole. If measured from center to center it would be less than .204 or sub-caliber. You can also measure widest points and then subtract .204. Example: Three shot group measures .340 at widest points (.340 -.204 = .136 shot group) which is less tha...

Re: Help me choose a rifle in .204

Other than a trigger change, from factory to a Timney, no other modifications were made made to the Howa's.

Re: Help me choose a rifle in .204

Sub-caliber does in fact mean the shot group measures under .204 or .224 for the 22-250; essentially the bullets overlap. I noted with interest in a recent magazine article testing various rifles of different calibers the only rifle to shoot sub-caliber was a Weatherby Sub MOA which is made by HOWA ...

Re: Help me choose a rifle in .204

I have owned each of the rifles you mentioned. Please note - "owned". The best and most accurate rifle in my opinion out-of-the box is made by HOWA (1500 Varminter). I have now set up nine of these rifles in 204 and 22-250 caliber for fellow varmint shooting friends. Each will shoot sub-ca...

Re: Which 204 rifle for a carry coyote rig

You might consider the HOWA Sporter - weight 7.6 pounds. Many so called carry-rifles are too light and that impedes accurate shooting even with a rifle such as a CZ which I own. It is very accurate but the standard barrel is only good for several shots before shot groups open up. This has not been a...

Re: 40 grain V-Max and 1-12 twist barrels

I shoot the 40 V-max in Howa, Remington, CZ and Cooper. They will all consistantly shoot less than 1/2 inch at 100 and have hit many PD's from 350 to 600 yards with each brand of rifle. I owned a Savage that shot fine for the first six rounds then opened up. Sent it to the factory and had the same r...

Re: Hello, am new here, and looking for opinions.

I had two Savage SSTH Varmint rifles. The 22-250 was a read shooter, sub-caliber shot groups, but would constantly jam the third round. The 204 would open up after 6-8 rounds. I sent the rifle back to Savage with instructions that if it did not shoot 1/4" or less shot group to return my money. ...

Re: CZ - keep it or trade it?

The problem with the lack of extreme accuracy is likely a function of the light weight of 6.2 pounds for this rifle. It is extremely difficult to steady a rifle this light. I have the same rifle and cannot shoot better than 1/2 inch shot groups. It is a terrific rifle but will not work well for rapi...

Re: howa 1500 .204

You can adjust the Howa factory trigger down to 2 lbs. However, you will have some creep. Get a Timney trigger, remove and replace one screw, it is that simple. Have it adjusted By Timney to 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 pounds before shipping to you. It will make a fantastic shooter out of your Howa. Best and mos...

Re: Upgrading my scope collection

The 204 32 or 40 grain is more than enough for any coyote. Obviously the 40 gr is better for a long shot - 300+ yards.
