Do I get a Schmidt or 2 Nikon Monarch Tacticals?

Hi everyone I want to upgrade my glasswear but can't decide the direction to go. I was thinking about a Schmid & Bender 4-16x50 Variable (with side focus) for my .308 as I do long range targets and some Stalking soon. Or I could get 2 Nikon Monarch X 4-16 x50 Tactical with sidefocus for my .308 ...

Re: new rifle

+1 for the Howa / Hogue combination!! I have a Howa 1500 Vamint Heavy Barrel with Hogue Overmoulded stock in .308win and love it to bits! Great gun, great price!! Another for you to consider is the Savage Model 12 VLP, but this might be a bit more expensive (Not sure about prices over there in the ...

Re: Yugo mauser

patrickhoma I do not own a Mauser myself but have had the opportunity to use many at my club, from original German 1942, Yugoslavian models, Russian captured and modified versions etc. The caliber is great, recoil was mild for a large cartridge (it feels a little less sharp than a .308win IMO) but ...

Re: 308 Win..

Ray P What sort of distance are you intending to shoot at? If you want to go long distance, 700+ yards, you might want a slightly faster twist, like the 1-10" to stabalise the heavier bullets as mentioned by Jim White. Otherwise a 1-12" twist will do just fine for slightly shorter distanc...

Re: .308 Win loads using VARGET

jo191145 - Cheers for the advice! A few days ago I contacted Berger about some possible load help, and they responded really quickly. Their customer service is fantastic, so well done Berger for that...it was much appreciated :wtg: They noted that Hogdon VARGET is an excellent choice for the 168 an...

Re: .308 Win loads using VARGET

Jim White Thanks for the reply!! Regarding the 155g Palmas, I have tried a number of combinations including different seating depths and bushings (from light neck tension to tight neck tension). I'm gonna give the Bergers and A-Max's a go and see what success I can acheive with them. Thanks again f...

.308 Win loads using VARGET

Hi Guys I've just finished working on some loads with the 155g Sierra Matchking, min to max charge weights of Varget in .3g powder increases and different seating depths. I wasn't really that impressed! So, I have recently purchased some 168g Berger VLDs and 155g/168g Hornady A-Max to see if my gun...

Re: The British want their guns back

Very interesting to say the least. Once they're gone, they're GONE FOR GOOD! - very true RIO . As kenbrofox said in one of his posts, we (here in the UK) didn't mobilise in time to put forward a decent enough case for not banning guns. We did have a series of very tragic events that pushed the Gove...

Re: difference between target and varmint bullets

kenbrofox Am I right in assuming that you are also based here in the UK?!?! If so then your question rests upon 2 things; (1) Your Firearms certificate and whether you are allowed to legally purchase Expanding Ammunition (2) Your Wholesaler/Distributer/Mailorder company and what they consider to be...

Re: Is it time for me to Neck Turn?

re:RIO As I'm not experiencing any problems I didn't think that I needed to get into the Neck Turning game but wasn't sure, hence asking for a little guidence and wisdom from the likes of yourself. Thanks!! Thanks for the Heads Up on correct Bushing installation too, mine is already just loose enou...

Is it time for me to Neck Turn?

Hi everyone, i've recently started reloading for my .308win and .223rem and getting some great early results but am wondering whether I need to start Neck Turning or not. I neck size my brass, using Redding Type-S with Bushings for both calibers, but on reloading I notice that i'm 'part-sizing' the ...

Some interesting things at a recent range day

Hi Everyone I love going to one of my local ranges every month, you get to see and play with some very cool stuff. Check out the following, some of which are very rare in deed ;) This photo shows a Martini Henry (.450 caliber) and lying next to it is one of my Lee Enfield's (.303) http://i336.photob...
