Muzzle break??

:chin: So, my 14 year old, 90lb daughter got drawn for a cow elk hunt this November/December. I have a 257 Weatherby she will be shooting. Guys in my hunting party have added muzzle breaks and have been impressed with the reduction of recoil. I know the .257 is not a large recoil for most, but I wan...

Re: What would you do????

Thanks All! RIO, always good to be seated at this table! Sounds like the rifle will be taking a trip to the Gun smith. I’m glad I haven’t had time to remove the scope, I’m glad it SHOULD be an easy fix, crossing fingers. I will keep you all updated. Really hoping to have for this rifle for some back...

What would you do????

So I have a 270 Weatherby, which was my first rifle. I always thought I was a bad shot, but finally figured out that the scope was moving. By that time I had moved on to new rifles. This fall I was planning for a high mountain hunt and thought this rifle with a new scope would be perfect. But… I fir...

Re: Youth starter rifles

Hello Again,
After hunting around for ammo, there isn’t any 243 rounds to be found in our area. I have found a decent supply of 6.5 CM, so I think I’m going to that route.

Just curious what factory loads and bullet weight you suggest? We will be hunting Mule Deer.

Thanks again!

Re: Youth starter rifles

Thanks all for the input! Unfortunately, with our current ammunition and reloading hoarding, I think this is going to be a big factor in my decision. I think I will start the kids off with the 243 and then bump them up to the 6.5 or 257 in a couple years, granted that I can find 243 ammunition. This...

Youth starter rifles

Hello 204 Team! My 12 year old daughter finished up her hunter education course this spring, so we are looking into a rifles. She has 4 younger siblings so this rifle will definitely be passed down. She is also 100 lbs soaking wet, so we won’t be shooting any 300’s Magnums for now. We will be huntin...

Re: Spotting Scope

Well, I bought once, cried once, and am done with it, but have a smile on my face! Thanks for the advice, I went with the 20x60x80 Gold Ring. It’s not compact, but for the canyons I hunt and having youth on my side, I won’t regret the size or weight (it actually is very light) in my pack. First time...

Re: Spotting Scope

Thanks RIO! Leupold was the direction I was headed. I was looking at the Gold Ring - 12-40x60 mm. The armored version you mentioned is that the Mark 4 version? I couldnt find the difference of the tactical Gold sting compared to just the Gold Ring. Can you explain the difference? Also thanks for the...

Spotting Scope

Hello, I’m back for some more great advice. I’m looking into spotting scopes and would like to hear your opinions. I am from WA state and also hunt Idaho. Mostly all spot and stalk, in big canyons. So I need to balance the power of the scope with the weight since climbing hills leaves me with limite...

Re: Scope Mount Questions

Thank you gentleman for your information! I will tap the scope forward and call it good. I have not had a chance to get back out and shoot again, but hopefully this weekend I will be punching some holes. :D Rick, those Coopers are beautiful wood, action, barrel and scope all have great contrast; and...

Scope Mount Questions

Hello All, I have a question about a scope I had mounted. I had this VX2 3-9X50 mounted on my 22-250. It was done by a local gunsmith so I didn't think to check it over to closely, I was just excited to get out and shoot. My question is how close is too close for the bell of the scope to be to the t...

257 Buck

Thanks fellas for all the good information on the 257 Weatherby! I started with the 120 gr Partitions, but as I looked closer at the Ballistics, as you suggested, I liked the Barnes Triple Shock 100 gr. and they shot well in my gun. I took advantage of a late buck tag in WA. We had not seen many buc...

257 Weatherby for mule deer, 100 or 120 gr?

Hello All, I just went out and baught a 257 weatherby because I found a great deal and because I have a late season deer hunt coming up. Nothing like a great excuse to buy another gun! 1st question- Will 100 gr bullet be enough for a large mule deer, lets say out to 300 yards or should I move to 120...
