Re: Reloading with a progressive press

You'd be wise to check if the Dillion is compatable with the 204 caliber. I have a Lee Classic Turret and the powder dump will not work without spilling some powder half the time outside the small necked 204 cartridges. I found my way around the problem, but that's another story. When I phoned Lee t...

RCBS makes one for a 204, I probably got mine from Midway, can't remember.

Re: My primers are coming!! My primers are coming

Lucky you! I hit Cabela's and Sportsman's Warehouse in Billings, MT last weekend and like everyone else, their shelves were bare.

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

Yes Glenn, evidently the SSS program is put into motion now and then. Some years back the local paper had an article about a wolf evidently drowning in the Buffalo Bill Reservoir (at least that's where the Feds found the collar) :D

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

Maybe too, they should be reintroduced in Central Park, Boston Commons or the National Mall just for starters. Right, I can't count how many times we all have said that. A few years back a friend who cowboys for a huge ranch shot one that was killing a calf, thinking it was a coyote. It was about 8...

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

Watch out for the buffler if you're going on a bike, there isn't much give in a bison Good part is they just lumber along slowly. Usually a couple bikers hit deer every season. Last week a couple had a antelope jump out in front of their bike over on the Teton side and they ended up in the hospital...

Re: Tried some blitzkings in my howa, with pics

You might check to see if your barrel is fully floated. I have a Howa Varminter Supreme, thumbhole laminated stock in 22-250 and I had some contact on one side near the fore end. I ended up pillar glass bedding the receiver plus removing the contact area at the tip and it shoots cloverleafs if I do ...

Am i the only dummy on the entire 204um who tried and failed to post pictures?
No, I'm right up there with you. I have Webshots and thought I followed the instructions to the letter and no go.

Re: You have to support guys/orgs like this.

I agree, VERY well-written. I've never heard Savage's program, but I understand he's a real ultra-conservative talk show host, so I'm surprised by his anti "assault" stance. I couldn't find anything on his current site regarding firearms, maybe it's archived.

Re: Savage 12 firing pin bolt face questions?

Mine does the same thing regardless of hot or very mild loads. I happened upon a forum where there was about 3 pages of posts regarding this. Many guys had contacted the mfgr and like posted, they said there was no problem. After reading all that, I looked at my bolt face with a magnifying glass and...

Re: Scope Mounts

A bit of advice, you might NOT want to consider buying the Leupold scope mounts. I was going to buy them and thankfully good old Midway has buyer's reviews. Evidently Leupold really screwed up on the design of the rear mount. If you mount it one way, it hangs over the receiver port, if you reverse i...

Re: The journey is nearing an end!!!!

I realize it may not be the accuracy I can expect due to most of the shooting will be the breaking in process. Hey, you might be suprised. After I bought my Savage 204 LPV, installed the scope, I loaded up a fairly low starting load, went out to the gun club strictly to get my scope zeroed in. I wa...

Re: Barrels & temps.

A clever trick a guy on another gun site says works for him and his buddies is to use a little battery powered minnow pail aerator. He sits his rifle vertically, puts the aerator tube through the open receiver into the chamber and he says the constant air flow really cools the barrel quickly. Walmar...

Re: Good ball powder for 22-250

Seems like guys have said for a number of years that W760 is is pretty much exactly the same powder as H380. If so, 42 grains would be WAY over the top for a 22-250 load. Without looking on their site, I think Hogdons and my manuals say 38 grains of H380 is max recommendation for a 22-250. I usually...

World record elk--(if you say so)

There's a pic going around regarding a Utah elk that's truly fantastic. It's easy to find on Google. However, here's the rest of the story---We have a local newspaper hunting & fishing writer who's articles are always interesting and fair-minded and he pointed out the following in today's articl...
