Re: .308 Win loads using VARGET
Regarding 155 SMK (Palma) bullets. These were designed for PALMA shooting from 1x13 twist barrels (I believe 26" to 28" long). They always worked for me in my Service Rifle's (M14) at 1000 yards but my barrels are no where near that length. You can also play with neck tension, different pr...

Re: WS2 Question
There's no need to worry abut the graphite part. BR shooters have been using colloidal graphite for years to coat a clean unfired barrel to keep the first shot from the clean barrel closer to subsequent shots. It also help to reduce copper fouling. Greg Tannel, who is one of the nations premier gun...

Re: Reloading for 0 deg. F to 100 deg. F
I was hoping Varget would be OK to use... Here's the full story: I have all my loading equipment in the U.P. of Michigan and the weather was cold when I had the time to test loads. I want to hand my rifle off to my brother for prairie dog shooting this summer but don't want to make him buy factory ...

Re: Reloading for 0 deg. F to 100 deg. F
I agree Jim. Varget will not set any speed records in the 204. Its that inefficency that might make it the best for 0-100 tinkering tho. A much less chance of getting in trouble if it does'nt work too. What has surprised me is how much faster (150 FPS in my CZ) RE15 is running over Varget. I though...

Re: .17-222 Rem Mag for Grizz?
I'll tell ya' back on one of my SSBN patrols we had some hunting videos along, one of which was bow & arrow hunting...polar bears. This dude had a lot of confidence in his guide. Now picture this; its knee-deep snow and there isn't a tree or nothing to be seen, for 360 degrees. This dude shoots ...

Re: Reloading for 0 deg. F to 100 deg. F
My thoughts on not using anything slower (Varget/Re=15) wasn't because of an overcharge but because of efficency and maybe velocity loss.

Rick: That is undoubtedly a very, very lucky man. You could run that scenario a dozen more times and the bear would probably win most, if not all, of them. Sidebar: Do you think he changed his pants out before or after that picture was taken? :) Mike, Probably after and I bet it was a mess... Jim

Re: Reloading for 0 deg. F to 100 deg. F
You should try other powder and primer combinations. With a gas gun your pretty much limited on neck tension. Varget, H4895 & Benchmark are in Hodgdon's line of "Extreme" powder line. With S-39's I've had good luck with H4895 & Reloader 15 (Varget wasn't as good) but I would hesita...

Re: Nikon Monarch on a CZ 527
Don't know if this will help but for a while I had a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 on my CZ-527 American. The rings that came with the rifle worked fine, plenty of clearence on the objective end. The eye piece end cleared the bolt but its close (as it is for the Zeiss Conquest thats on there now).

Re: 308 loads with h4895
For target shooting (155, 168 & 175 SMK) I use between 41 & 42.4 grains. Never loaded a 308 for hunting.

Re: Velocity Issue
I have the groups already and you're right, its very rewarding. Also, that may be all she'll do. I'm also going to try at another firing point on the range and see if that matters. Its not so much the velocity as I want to know what the velocity is (in reality) so I can set my scope turrets acordang...

Re: 204 Ruger VS 22-250
JW The 22/250 is a 14 twist so anything over about a 62gr is out of the question. ... which is why I mentioned 7 & 8 twist barrels (based off your 1st post "used to cut paper over a bench so the wollup isn't the biggest factor..." ). I read that to mean target shooting. If I misread a...
