Re: 1 in 11 twist

I shoot a 1:8.5" twist Pac-Nor barrel in .204 Ruger on a Savage Precision Target Action. It shoots the 26 grain Barnes Varmint Grenade and 32 Nosler BT Lead Free under .5" both to the same POA with 25.2 grains of RL-10x. Runs around 4110 fps. Also shoots the 50 grain Berger HPBT's under .5...

Re: 5mm Shrike?

Why? Is the first question that comes to mind. With the introduction of the .17 Hornet by Hornady, what advantage do these cartridges offer? The .20 caliber numbers appear to fit the same niche as the .17 and .221 Remington Fireball. They are interesting, especially for those who must have something...

Re: Nikon Monarch scopes

My Nikon Monarchs were purchased based on the reputation of the cameras. Both are in the 6 - 24X range one older and one a newer side focus model. The older of the two is optically better than the newer. Clarity is not as good as Bushnell Elites, Clearidge XP, Burris, Leupold or even some Weaver off...

Re: Confession

I have a confession to make......I Love the .204 Ruger cartridge....I think it is the best one to come along in a very long time....Now the sad part...Some may remember a few years back...there was a special (might have been 60 minutes) where it showed a worker in Ruger's factory that was fired for...

Re: Mixed day at range

Most accurate lead free load for the .223 Remington I have found is the 40 grain Nosler BT Lead Free bullet, 21.5 grains of Reloader -10x, Winchester primer, loaded in Winchester cases. Shoots consistently in the low .2's, with the development group being 10 shots @ 100 yards = .206". Rifle is ...

Re: Winchester Brass

My experience with Remington 6-1/2 primers was in IHMSA Silhouette competition years ago. I loaded the 7 TCU (.223 Remington necked up to 7mm) with a 130 grain Speer bullet, Reloader 7 and a Remington 6-1/2 primer for the Contender pistol. While the load was within safe pressure limits, the 6-1/2 wo...

Re: Case lube question.

If I'm full length sizing a large batch of cases, they are placed neck down in a MTM box, then a piece of cardboard is placed on top of the box. The box and cardboard is inverted and the box removed to leave the cases standing upright in rows, neck up. Then I spray the cases angling down with Hornad...

Re: Lapua Flash Hole FYI

Really, what we were led to believe is usually wrong, or just not as important as we thought. It doesn't make any difference how the flash hole is pierced, what size it is, or even if its round. Off center flash holes make a difference as a decapping pin can break if the offset is too great. I have ...

Re: Winchester Brass

Don't worry about the flash hole diameter, or out of round condition, it won't make any difference. Flash holes can be drilled out to quite large diameters without any change in accuracy. The only thing that can make a difference to accuracy is the primer pocket depth as that sets primer seating dep...

Re: Reverse engineering a factory Hornady 32gr V-Max

I picked up several pounds of CFE223 and naturally had to try it in the .204 Ruger and .22-250 cartridges, but not the .223 Remington. So far it's shown some possibilities, but I haven't had time to develop gilt edge loads that compete with existing powders. I did notice that this powder produces pl...

Wrangler, you're a genius.... Shot this group about 3 months ago....5@100yds. http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb328/madmikej119/204r001.jpg Four different brands of brass; (neck sized with .224 bushing) (2) Federal's (98.4 gr. & 98.9 gr.) (1) Remington (95.8 gr.) (1) Hornady (101.7 gr.) (1)...

Re: what is the cleanest burning powder

I have long held that "clean burning" is a legend not worth worrying about, but then, as the sign over the tack room at Why Worry Farm said "Worry, it gives you something to do, but doesn't get you anywhere". None of the powders commonly listed for the .204 Ruger is going to foul...

Re: im buying a new gun help!!!!

I agree with the Cooper suggestion. There are a bunch of options that can be ordered extra cost, such as "Custom Barrel Twist & Make" . You can have it your way, and at a cost lower than a custom build. It comes ready to scope and shoot. Mine is good as it came, one hole groups, no ext...

Re: 39 gr blitz kings trouble grouping

Your particular barrel doesn't like them, the .204 is a particular beast in that regard. Kinda like trying to make a six year old eat liver for dinner. My experience tells me that the 1:12" standard twist was way too slow. Guys with faster twist barrels have better luck. It isn't the bullet, it...

Re: weighing brass

We all sort this and that, weigh this and that, uniform things, turn necks until we cramp, carefully seat every primer, dribble powder in the scale pan until it kisses the zero mark, seat the bullet with a competition die and sit back to admire our work. Then we shoot the stuff. Chances of having th...
