Poor season
It sure wasn't a good year for ground squirrels here in s.w. Idaho, Started out kind of slow, got a little better but nothing like previous years. Then the weeds & grass started growing, some nearly 3 ft. high. Makes it impossible to see what few squirrels are out there. And I don't know what ha...

Re: Idaho chucks
Yep, I like shooting them all. I have shot a few with my .204, mostly with 40 gr. V-Maxes but the 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon works really well to. I shot one 30 pounder with my .218 Bee at 111 yds. 40 gr. V-Max went in the right ear and out the left ear. That was a huge badger. Should have had it mou...

Re: Idaho chucks
Oh yeah ! A bad varmint hunting is always better than a god day working, even if I am retired. The way I look at it, any time you can get out and hunt varmints is a good day even if you don't shoot any. We have a badger hunt/shoot coming up next month. Hopefully I'll have some pictures then.

Re: Idaho chucks
I wish we had a video camera, there were a couple others that did some pretty awsome aerobatics. That little Rugger is really impressive, I've watched him shoot coyotes, badgers, jack rabbits and ground squirrels with it. Even a 400 yd, shot on a badger. It's the most accurate Ruger 77 I've ever see...

Idaho chucks
We got out yesterday for a day of chuck shooting. My buddy and I shot nine between us. We only got a picture of this one. It was a big fat one. He got it at 52 yds. with his 6/mm Rem. 73 gr. Barnes Verminator. It's a Ruger 77 tang safety, super accurate and he has named it the "Terminator"...

.218 Bee, one of my favorites. Looks like it's working good for you too.

Re: 224 Valkyrie's first coyote
I'm not really sure what the difference is. The .22 GAP is something really new. Eric Mayer at varminter.com has been involved in the development and he's pretty enthused about it.

There is a .22 GAP, 6.8 necked to .224. Don't know much about it.

Re: Carnage
The strung out rat, my buddy was holding it with his Leatherman pliers. The little buggers are prone to the plague in this area and we don't handle them with bare hands.

Re: Carnage
It's a .218 Bee, 6x Leupold. I've had it at least 20 years. It's completely factory original, hasn't had one thing done to it and it's one of my most accurate guns. The more I shoot it the more I like it. My favorite load is 40 gr. V-Max with 14 gr. Lil' gun With it I have killed thousands of squirr...

Re: Carnage
Thought I'd show a little ground squirrel mush. Don't know how the one pic got posted twice. These are Piute Ground Squirrels, known in So. West Idaho as "whistle pigs". They are about half the size of your sage rats.

Re: it just keeps raining
A bunch of us from Idaho Varmint Hunters net out in the hills this morning. We scattered out in different directions and shot ground squirrels all morning. Then we met back up around noon and grilled up burgers and hot dogs. Sat around and b. s.'d for a while then went back out and shot a few more. ...
