Rock chucks

On Tuesday I went out with a couple friends to shoot a few Idaho chucks. We got about 12 of them. It was a really nice morning, clear, no wind, we got a few. Then in the afternoon the wind came up and before long it was blowing pretty hard. The only ones we could see then were between 400 and 600 yd...

Re: Badger

Yeah, Ive had farmers/ranchers tell me to shoot every badger I see. This one he shot with the 6 m/m was a no exit either. Hardlly ever an exit on badgers. You can use a bullet that will almost tear a coyote in half and all you get on a badger is an entrance wound. I did shoot one at 111 yds. with my...

Badger

My buddy and I went out yesterday to practice some social distancing. We shot a few ground squirrels and he got this badger with his 6 m/m Rem. and 70 gr. Nosler Varmageddon.

Re: Countdown to 4000 Members

Shooting a few ground squirrels here in s.w. Idaho. Went out this past Wednesday. We were hoping to scare up a badger but no luck. We did shoot quite a few squirrels though. My buddy was trying out some new loads with 40 gr. V-Max in his 22/250. They really scatter the squirrels. The weather is up a...

Re: Ground Squirrels

Yeah, it's hard to tell what to do. We are under the stay at home order too but they said we could go outside for fresh air and exercise as long as we observe the 6 foot distance and don't congregrate in groups. That was pretty easy to do out there in the Idaho desert hills. We're supposed to get so...

Ground Squirrels

We went out yesterday and got into therm pretty good. It was a cool, windy, overcast day so I was sorprised so many were out. Lot's of pups. I gave some flying lessons with Deadly Do Right. Lots of fun, beats being isolated in the house. Hardly anyone else out theret was easy to maintain social dist...

Re: Tick-Tock....it's almost time

The ground squirrels are out over here in so. west Idaho. We saw about a half a dozen when we were out last week. My buddy got his first of the year with his Ruger AR .223. We've had quite a bit of rain and a little snow and the roads are a mess. Also heard of one guy that got his first rock chuck t...

Re: Coyotes

The Idaho Varmint Hunters just had their annual Christmas Song Dog Challenge tournament this past Saturday. It's a one day contest. Five teams registered and three teams brought coyotes back. First place had three, 2nd place had two and third place had two. The tie was broken with the biggest dog wh...

Re: Coyotes

The World Champion Coyote Calling Contest just happened in Elko, Nev. this past weekend. There wasn't near as many coyotes taken as in years past. A lot of teams reported seeinf lot's of sign, tracks and scat, but said they just weren't responding and coming in to calls.

Re: Coyotes

We use both electronic and mouth calls, sometimes at the same time. And we always try to use something that sounds different than the usual rabbit distress. It just seems that there isn't as many coyotes this year or they're just not coming in. Even in the contests there is not as many being brought...

Re: Coyotes

Don't see hardly anything on the roads and hiways anymore. Years ago I was driving north at night just north of Tonopah, Nev. and A bobcat chasing a coyote ran across in front of me. That's the only time I've seen that !

Re: Coyotes

There hasn't been many jack rabbits in this area of Idaho for several years. We seen one once in awhile. Also the badgers seem to have disappeared. There are a few out there because once in awhile we see fresh diggings. But haven't actually seen a badger in over a year. Don't know if it's for the sa...
