Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?

Great choice. I also have a Cooper in .204R (M21 Varminter); getting ready to downsize a bit, and that one stays. What barrel length and configuration - Varminter, Montana Varminter, Classic, etc. is your’s?

Re: CZ 527 Varmint

39 grain Sierra Blitzkings with Alliant Power Pro Varmint or Reloader 10x are nicely accurate through my CZ .204 Varmint.

Re: Finally got my .204 together

I have a CZ exactly like that; you’re gonna love it. Never heard of that brand of bolt handle but will check it out. I only shoot 39 Blitzking handloads through mine but 35 grain Berger bullets would be a second choice if they’re accurate. If you’re looking for loaded .204 ammo, might try Hunting Sh...

Re: Cant find factory ammo (not a reloader)

Might try www.hsmammunition.com Hunting Shack loads .204 ammo with several different bullets, including the great 39 grain Sierra Blitzking; search under their Varmint Ammo section. I’ve used them when too busy to handload or when brass was scarce. Good quality; prices weren’t bad for loaded stuff, ...

Re: Looking for a .204

If Tikka has even made any of the new T3x Varmints in .204, it doesn’t look like they’re getting any in Canada, either (although I see they sell one in .222 with a wooden stock up there I’d love to have, but bet it’s a hassle to import one now!) Haven’t seen one of those older .204 Varmints or Super...

Re: Tikka T3X vs Savage Model 12 LVP

Wish they still sold the Tikka Varmint in .204 around here. Anything I’ve heard or read about the “old” Varmint/Super Varmint by those who were lucky enough to get one was good. As far as the 39 SBK not stabilizing in a 1:12” barrel: it’s generally agreed it’s the 40-grain bullets that won’t work in...

Re: I am a big 22wmr fan

One of my “keep forever” rifles is a Winchester 9422M XTR I inherited from my dad. I once dragged it across the edge of a shooting bench, barely denting the clear coat on the bottom of the butt stock. Fretted about that more than if I’d dropped my Cooper down a well. :wall:

Re: Help with Upgrading my Remington 700

Looks like the newer Ruger American Predator in .204 (#26971) comes with an “AI style” magazine.

Dang. If I didn’t already have three .204 rifles, I’d snag one of those!

Re: New bullet wishes

Sierra just brought out a 36 grain, .20 cal. Blitzking; the BC is higher than the 35 gr. Berger, I believe, FWIW: I've noticed more complaints about 40 gr. V-Maxes splashing than 39 SBKs. Also, most 1:12" twist barrels will stabilize the latter (each of my three .204s in that twist rate shoot t...

Re: 221 Fireball Build

Only trouble is, CZ doesn’t offer the .221 in the Varmint model. Man, I wish they did, and others have agreed! They would no doubt sell as quickly as that batch of Mexican-market HB Varmints in .222 Remingtons CZ imported here a couple years back did.

Re: 221 Fireball Build

You must be planning on re-barreling, because as far as I know, any rifles chambered in .221 Fireball came with 1:14" twist barrels. I'll check my Cooper and Remington again to be sure, but I once was wanting to try some 53 grain V-Maxes in those, but then remembered those longer bullets requir...

Re: Cooper Model 21

Trigger: Just a thought.....with a good shooting Cooper 20VT and also having a Cooper MTV in 204, you are basically set up for varmints from up close, to all the way out to as far as you can hit anything. Use the VT for all the stuff under 400, then break out the 204 for when more horsepower is nee...

Even if one could find a “unicorn”, don’t try to pass it off on my grandson. He had it figured out when just three years old: “a unicorn is just a pony with a ‘stinger’ on its head”.

Re: Downsides to the 204 for coyotes

Side note on the Hornady 45gr SP they are being dropped. Darn. Was hoping to try them if i ever got a barrel with a fast-enough twist rate to stabilize them. Have gotten a couple more .204s since I tried some factory Hornady 45 stuff, so maybe I’ll see if it’ll do any better in those. One of the mo...

Re: WTB leupold 8.5-25x40mm Side Focus

I did Google enough to find an old Vari-X II for sale once, with a (stated) 40mm, but that was front AO. And to my eyes, in the pics the bell looked too large for it to be that size....
