Re: Stunk it up with my new 12FCV today :(

Factory 32 and 40 gr V-Max rounds grouped about 8 inches apart in my savage 12 FV barrel. Just the other day I screwed on a new Criterion barrel (11 twist) and it loves factory 40 gr V-Max! I wonder if it will shoot 32's into the same POI...

Re: repeater in 17FB or 20 vartarg?

Hey Brad thanks a ton! I didn't know you could buy the bottom metal straight from CZ. I'm gonna be watching gunbroker and gunsamerica for a used CZ Varmint. I'm still trying to decide between 17 FB or 20 vartarg... I'm looking for less muzzle blast/noise but still some decent range. The tiny twenty ...

Re: 32 v-max for coyotes

Last winter my hunting partner put 4 (yes four) rounds in a big male coyote, which anchored him . He was shooting a 270 win using 130 gr soft points (shot placement was not very good). I put one 32 gr V-Max into its vitals and thats all she wrote. :D

Re: repeater in 17FB or 20 vartarg?

Thanks for the input guys, thats two for the vartarg... I think I'm convinced! Sidewinderwa-I'm aware of the remingtons... I'm just not a huge fan of them. If anyone is trying to get rid of a CZ in 221FB I'd be interested ! :D

repeater in 17FB or 20 vartarg?

Alright, I am getting exited for my next project... a 17 FB or 20 vartarg repeater. I am trying to decide on the best way to accomplish this at the moment. I have heard many success stories about using a cz 527 in 221 FB as a donor and that is probably what I will do. I thought I could save some cas...

Re: Bobcat mount finally finished!

Thanks guys, I'm stoked! acloco- Our local taxidermist is Cathy Gearwar, in Benson Vermont. She has done several deer mounts for my cousins and my brother, her work is top notch!

Bobcat mount finally finished!

Yep, just got it back from the taxidermist! It is a 25 lb female that I called in and shot this winter with my savage 12FV, using 32 V-Max factory ammo :D . Here are some pics of the cat for comparison: http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/nsbardel/downsized_0111111203.jpg http://i818.photobucke...

Re: The 4000FPS barrier Ruger 204

I shoot a savage with 26" barrel. I just worked some loads up using RL-10x, rem 7 1/2 primers and 32 BKs. At 26.2 gr my average velocity was just over 4230 fps. This is 1/10th UNDER max and I was very impressed. It produced a group of about 0.8" (notes not in front of me) while groups that...

Re: How hot is to hot

The early morning is the better option IMO. It should be cool enough for a few hours and the wind is usually less in the morning than the evening. Also if you wait until the sun is going down to start shooting you could run out of light before your done testing. I've been there

Re: strange scale behaviour

I have had problems keeping my eye at the right level to get consistent readings from my balance scale. I would always have to duck slightly and it made for a very sore neck after an hour of loading  . I have recently started using a webcam positioned level with the scale and it is great! I jus...

Re: Tackling Scope Cant

I use the "level level level" Product by wheeler engineering. It is just two small levels. One fits into your action and a magnet holds it onto the rails that the recoil lugs ride in and the other is set on top of your scope. After adjusting eye relief, I simply twist the gun until the act...

Re: New 35 gr 204 bullets? Anybody tried them yet?

Wow Trent that is one beautiful stock! Great job! My action is a repeater in center feed, but I want this to be more of a bench/varmint stock so I ordered one of the single shot followers from Sharp Shooters Supply :D . I always single feed off the bench anyways so this should make life easier. Just...

Re: New 35 gr 204 bullets? Anybody tried them yet?

I have recieved mine but havn't loaded or fired them yet. They look really nice anyways. I am in the process of making a new stock for my savage 12FV, and I am waiting to do any more load testing until it is finished as the flexy plastic stock just isn't great for bench shooting. Oh, and I am using ...

Re: 50 and 55 grain ballistics tables

I use this external ballistic calculator: http://www.biggameinfo.com/BalCalc.aspx You don't need to download it to use it so it should work for you. Now if your looking for LOAD data, Hodgdon and IMR have data available for the 50 gr Berger (check the .204 Load Data tab on this site), but I haven't ...
