Re: warm weather calling

I dont have a real profound answer for that, but In the warmer weather I like to howl more. If that doesnt work I move to distress calls or coyote pup distress. It seems to have worked wonders for me. It would be wise to learn which howl sounds mean what in the coyote world so you dont blow em out. ...

Re: loads for .204?

Your load of Benchmark 26.3 was with which bullet? I agree that I dont wast time with the starting loads. I like to start at least at the middle point and load up from there until I get pressure signs so I know where I'm at. :D Then I find the most accurate fast load I can find. Wow your hunting gro...

Re: loads for .204?

how fast is your benchmark 25.7gr load shooting? Super nice group you have there. I'm still working on loads for my 204 for the upcoming coyote slaughter this winter. I've been using the 40gr vmax, but I'm trying out 39gr BK right now. I like super fast loads and thats why I bought a 204. I've been ...

Re: digital powder measure scale and dispensers

ok thanks that was a helpful reply. I dont have a balance scale, just a cheap digital scale. I've been putting my powder charges on the scale then using a trickler to get it just right. This method does take awhile, so Ive been looking at the automatic ones, but the price is staggering. Glad to hear...

digital powder measure scale and dispensers

Has anyone tried the digital powder measure scales and dispensers? Are they accurate? Fast? I weigh each charge that I load and am looking for a faster way to check my weights. Right now I just have a cheap digital scale that goes in .2 grain increments. I would like to have a scale that weighs in ....

Re: 204 For Problem Animal Controle

I think a 204 with a 35+ grain bullet would probably be fine for lynx, but I would think your 22-250 would be more ideal for Jackals. I personally like to slam my critters down, so I often use my .243 for coyotes. If im by myself I use the AR in .204 for quick followup shots if I've got several coyo...

Re: shelf life of powders

"being prepared" sounds like a good enough reason to make sure I have enough to load for quite sometime. Primers and Powder here I come!

Re: shelf life of powders

yeah I'm always trying to find that balance between having extra and what's called hoarding. I try to not be like my father who has more than enough tools etc for your grandkids and mine both. lol But I'd rather have a few extra pounds of powder for experimenting.

Re: shelf life of powders

wow that's impressive! Do you know if you have lost any fps with the old powder? According to your experience I wont have to worry about having too much powder sitting around. I have a decent amount of powder and some of it I dont currently have a load for or a rifle to shoot that powder with. I'll ...

shelf life of powders

Does anyone have experience with powders losing its effectiveness? I know that blackpowder loses its power after sitting on the shelf for a while. I know smokeless powder lasts longer, but how long? If my powder sits in a controlled environment (like my house with AC) will it still be as effective i...

Re: 204 For Problem Animal Controle

I havent hunted Jackal so I cant really comment from experience, but I would recommend using a hollowpoint or at least a harder bullet than a ballistic tip. I have had good luck using a 40grain VMAX on coyotes but occasionally I need a followup shot because of shallow penetration. I know barrel life...

Re: What do you think of the current version of Rem 597 in 22lr

for what its worth I have the earlier 597 Model and I wouldnt spend the money on another. I also have a Ruger 10/22 and it's hands down the way to go even if you have to shell out a lil extra for it. The rotary clip works much better than the upright style anyway.

Re: .243 Powders?

I've had great luck with H414 with 75g Hornady HP out of a Ruger 26" barrel. I was using 26.2grains with the bullet seated to touch the lands. Fairly stout load and I am getting 3542 FPS.
