Duker... your are absolutely correct... My Bad... I said it backwards... you are correct... powder always causes a vertical... and seating depth is usually the horizontal problem... thanks for the correction... I must have feel out of bed that morning...LOL.

To me... 1 to 2 thou is ideal... with no need to make them tighter. Groups that pattern left to right ( horizontal) are usually the result of powder charge... and vertical groups are usually seating depth. I would seat them to the lands and start backing them out until the groups came back down to h...

I started shooting coyotes with a 223, 40 gr vmax.. which worked great... but when I started shooting the 204 with 40 gr vmax... I never shot the 223 again.

and he is getting 55's to fly at 3650 fps...which means less wind drift at 500 yds. My purpose would be 100% long range coyotes. The 40's will... and have killed plenty of dogs... but the 55's would just be better in my thinking.
