Re: Toasted throat?

A most generous offer, Dan...let me get back to you on that. :lmao:

Yup, good excuse for more trigger time. Keeping the cross hairs steady at 100 is nothing like doing it at 200 or more. Dang targets keep movin' around.

Re: Toasted throat?

I've wondered about those mysterious "flyers" myself. It hadn't occurred to me that it might be the scope until a friend pointed out that the first shot on the second target was still in the first group. I don't have any 200 yd targets to compare. The only records I kept were load developm...

Toasted throat?

Had my Savage .204 bore scoped a while back. It didn't seem to be shooting as tightly as it had been. Throat looked toasted and there is pitting in the barrel. (that pitting is a puzzle. I always lube it before storage) Anyway, I was a bit down after seeing what it looked like, but can't afford a ne...

Re: Idle time

Thanks Ray. :)

Yup, love the 204!

I'm going to prep a Hornady case next. I did a rough cut on one and it seems to have thicker walls that the Win case in the pic.

Re: Idle time

Dan, Had I known you were going to try them so soon, I'd have mentioned this; Try to hit in the breast where the feathers are least dense. Believe it or not, those wing feathers are capable of deflecting a low angle shot. It's like hitting a hard object and getting a splash shot. Ok on the location....

Re: Idle time

Thanks, Dan.

Yup, pretty devastating bullet. Turns crows into a feather cloud.

Hey what part of Oz are you in? I have a cousin turned Aussie living in Mildura.

Had some idle time to fill. Thought this might be fun to do. :chin:

Re: Odd Man Out 204 Ruger Load?

3820 fps is right in the park according to Hodgdon's site.

As to appeal, I've seen several posts on other forums where they use H322. Have you checked the favorite loads on this site?

Re: Vortex optics

I have a Viper PST. Love it. Perfect for what I do and a great scope for the money. If you're talking about the HD series, no experience with them but lots of good reviews.

Like Joe said, the CS is outstanding.

Re: Winchester Brass

Can't tell you to shoot 'em. Wouldn't feel comfortable if they punched through and you got hot gas blowing back. If it were me, I'd disassemble them. I look at it this way, you're running about 56,000 psi; why take the risk for a few primers? I've had punch through with factory loads and was lucky t...

Re: Winchester Brass

Mvpal - Glad to help. I posted a link to Calhooun's article, here awhile back. Can't remember which topic, though. Doesn't hurt to have another. :) No need to feel silly. It's just part of the learning experience. Consider yourself more knowledgeable, now. :yeah: Good thing is that you can probably ...
