Re: Savage questions

Well that didn't go well. Groups are still at 1", ES' are still in the hundreds, and the added COAL + .1gr of powder gave me a 4K FPS on the chrony, and a shell stuck in the chamber. Tried tapping it out with my Tipton rod, no good. Anyone have any ideas how to get it out? Anyone have any ideas...

Re: Savage questions

So what COAL are people having luck with? I don't benchrest, but I need these ES numbers down. I prefer bullets around 40gr. I also read something here about crimping, wonder if I'm getting inconsistent ignition with the ball shaped CFE. I don't crimp for .223, figured .204 didn't need it either. M...

Re: Savage questions

Mikie, I only neck size these, still on the second firing. I'll FL size them once they get hard to chamber.

Toasty, I'll try that COAL and see what happens, thanks.

Wire, haven't seen those primers locally, just the regular stuff out here. The heavier spring just helps with the cratering?

Savage questions

Got me a 12FCV in .204 several years ago, and it shoots great, but only with factory ammo. With Hornady factory 40gr loads, I get an ES of 21 and half inch groups. With my handloaded 40gr VMAXs in Hornady brass, I get half inch groups, but I get ES numbers in the hundreds. That was with CFE223 and C...

Re: Questions about CFE223

I just happen to have CFE, 748, and 335 and was planning on trying all three. Only have 50 brass though, so 335 got left out for this round.

Re: Questions about CFE223

Does CFE have the lower burn temp to save the throat like 748 is supposed to have?

Re: Questions about CFE223

So if it turns out that CFE shoots best vs 748 and H335 for me, I'd be ok to shoot it exclusively?

Re: Varmints in the Headlines!

What's the difference between a rock chuck and a Pdog, size? Here in the once great state of CO, it's illegal to shoot em for sport (Pdogs that is) and people will actually call the police on you if they see it.

Re: give me some vortex info

I have a Viper PST on my 18" AR. I dropped it off the rifle, mounted in a Burris QD, from about mid-thigh. Didn't even lose zero, and Vortex CS was great, even though I never ended up sending it in. The zero stop is brilliant. The glass is very good, not quite like my Sightron, but I have zero ...

Re: Winchester 17 Super Mag Rimfire

A 3rd gun maker has plans on releasing one but I have yet to hear who that is. Volquartsen, a semi-auto from what I understand I think if the round was produced by someone other than Winchester, like CCI, and the Bmag didn't feel like a walmart pellet gun, there could be a future. Bad timing, cheap...

Questions about CFE223

I have a couple questions about CFE223 for the powder savvy 1: Can it damage steel? Any copper fouling remover (like Sweets) left in your barrel too long will mess it up, so can a copper fouling eraser mess it up if there's not enough copper to erase? Has anyone tested how many rounds of CFE must be...

Re: Stunk it up with my new 12FCV today :(

Update: Screws at 36#, sanded that bump out of the stock, and switched from the WalMart bipod to the sand bags. Found out that hot barrels cause bad groups, bags are more steady than cheap bipods, and the gun will actually do 3/4 and 5/8 groups with both flavors of Hornady ammo. My POA/POI between t...

Re: Stunk it up with my new 12FCV today :(

I rechecked my torques today, I was way under 40 in/lb, now I'm at 36 (top of my screwdriver's range). I also found a lump in my stock at the forward most part and sanded it out, not sure if it was causing me any trouble, but I feel better about it.
