Re: Reloading HK USP 45 issues

Crmping pistol bullets should be done separately from the seating die, that's why Dillon has four stations on their presses :D I don't think you can really get a decent bullet seat AND crimp with the same die, at the same time. By all means, experiment with the dies and see what happens, but there's...

Re: Reloading HK USP 45 issues

Well, it sounds to me like you need to invest in a taper crimp die. NOT a Lee factory crimp die, but a taper crimp die from one of the major makers like RCBS or Redding. That will fix up your feeding issues forthwith, it sounds like. It's an extra step, but a necessary and needful one. You don't wan...

Re: .204 Ruger vs. .17 Fireball

I've been fooling around with a .22 Hornet here lately. It's a pain in the neck to load, since the case is so small, and so are the bullets. The case is a pain, and it's difficult to get the bullets started into the case. My .221 Fireball is easier to load, but the .204 (of those three cases) is MUC...

Re: Colt: A fair deal?

Dave, when you finally get out into the field with your new Colt, and as you've been shooting Smith's for years, try to remember that the Colt cylinder rotates in the opposite direction than the Smith. I'm sure you've noticed it by now, but it's just something to keep in mind when you're an old &qu...

http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/3003214/DIY_bedding_M77_pic_heavy#Post3003214 Here's Northern Dave's recipe for bedding a 77. It's a long thread, heavy with pics, but Dave's a good guy with a wicked sense of humor, too. Sometimes he gets it really right, though, and th...

Re: I got a Ruger V/T giving me problems

"I have worked on the tang quiet a bit I drilled back in to the stock to make sure that it had a really hard and tight fit filled with epoxy. What would be the proper way to relieve this area." OUCH! That, and that center screw Lenard alluded to, are surely culprits to be reckoned with. If...

Re: I got a Ruger V/T giving me problems

Is the tang tightly bedded? That will make a huge difference in how the rifle shoots. If the tang IS bedded tightly, the action can't expand evenly when it heats up (no matter how little that may be), and that can cause stress in the action, and bollix up accuracy. Every little thing matters to some...

Re: 35 grain vmax in .223

I couldn't get them to shoot worth beans in my two Savages (1-9" twist barrels), I'm still not sure why I bought them in the first place ;) (I didn't have my Hornet at that time). That short little bugger won't be much good past 200 yards, it doesn't have the BC for that. If you have some, try ...

Re: 34 grain dogtowns ?

They aren't quite as explosive as the plastic tipped bullets, and I get an unexplained and unexpected flier every now and then, but they are pretty fair bullets, especially for the price (get them from Midsouth, not Midway, and save some money!!).

I've been using them with 2230-C, and Benchmark.

Re: Speer Gets In The .204 Game!

The BC is nothing to shout about with that 39 grainer, either, .202  isn't as good as a 32 Hornady, Nosler or Sierra :( . Midway is supposed to email me when they get some in, and I'll probably try some, because "it needs to be done", but they are, as noted, a day late and a dollar s...

The Blackhawk Serpas are the only things I've noticed for the SR9s, let alone the compact model, it's so new, I hadn't heard of it until a month ago.

Re: speer bullets

They are certainly behind the curve, or the eight ball, or whatever other comment comes to mind ;) . Those BCs are pretty poor, but for a calling bullet, when you get 'em close, it wouldn't matter much. Lots of guys get along with the old .22 Hornet, nothing much in the BC lineup. I've never had muc...

That's rare for a rifle not to like the 32 VMs. I'd look at the crown of the muzzle, too. Something doesn't sound right there. :chin: :chin:

Re: speer bullets

Can't try 'em if I don't know about 'em    This is the first I've heard about them! A couple of years ago, Melvin Eades(from this forum, and a heckuva nice guy) and I, separately, accosted the Speer/RCBS/ATK folks at the NRA Convention, about .204 bullets, and they seemed receptive...

Re: Cleaning a stainless steel barrel

Use your normal cleaning process, but do not ever, EVER, use a stainless steel brush in the barrel. Bronze or nylon brushes will work okay, but the stainless is rough on 'em, according to most gunsmiths, anyway.
Other than that, treat it like any other barrel.
