Re: Wc844 with 39gr blitzking anyone?

So here's the truth that Hodgy will never tell you. WC844 made by General Dynamics in Florida (Former Olin plant) is a voluntary internal segregation from WC846. The recipe is identical, and varies only on an "as-produced" basis (not all cookies bake identically). Surplus, and now bought t...

Re: Powder names are getting to an almost confusing point

As mentioned it is a play on words, all related to marketing. I visited with a fellow in industry (powder) a while back. I had a few questions and he was as tight lipped as a snapping turtle, then would change the subject. My suspicions, after seeing some of the older powders discontinued, the manu...

k9i449,

This is the second time you dug-up a 5-year old zombie thread. Need to pay attention to the dates.

Only thing I shoot is FFP.

Re: 34gr cheapies!

It's not "dirty" in the sense of ashy fouling, and no you wouldn't see it anywhere nearly as quick as in the 204.
You can call Sierra and ask about it, smaller bores accumulate it very quickly.

My accurate load is a light charge of CFE. M.O.P.E. That's minute of Pigeon eye. :D

Re: 34gr cheapies!

Sorry to hear that, but be careful with Varget in the 204. It generates hard carbon pretty quickly.

Re: Powders with low ES and SD

if ignition were the only issue then we could all just use magnum primers. Are you guys confusing SD with the powders temperature sensitivity ? Those are different issues altogether. Never heard of SD being a powder issue until this thread, can anyone source that ? Depends upon the case, charge, et...

Re: Powders with low ES and SD

Yes there can be differing factors, but as the host of that article by Denton offers(their system). Use a Pressure Trace system enough, and you'll see that large swings of ES are mostly ignition based issues. Why may be for a few different reasons, but the whole mess begins, or fails, with the relia...

Re: Downsides to the 204 for coyotes

Tejas is exactly right on bullet importance. In any weight, the Vmax have always been erratic for me. Purely by accident, I found the 34gr Varmint Nightmare bullets to be amazing on coyotes. My only suggestion is keep the shots under 300 yards, OR be very conscientious about bullet placement at that...

Re: Factory Hornady 204 ammo velocity

I'm in MZ5's camp on this.
Back when the 204 first came into the world, I chrono'd over 200 rounds of various Hornady ammo. Closest was within 100fps of the claim, the worst was off by 350fps.

Re: Powders with low ES and SD

My 204 is the only rifle that it has ever worked in. With an ES over 100 there is always a serious ignition issue, except apparently, magically in the 204 physics don't seem to apply.

Re: Hodgdon CFE 223 loads?

My M77 Predator has a few loads it shoots very well with, But I prefer the slower node. There is an interesting thing with it, don't just pick a load by the Chrono. My slower and more accurate node shouldn't work on paper. The ES is over 100fps!! So normally you would think there is a serious igniti...
