Re: Looking for a smith who can cut me a new chamber

good advice there wirelessguy, thanks. One of the locals told me the same thing. For the price difference I have decided it would be better to just put a new barrel on.

Looking for a smith who can cut me a new chamber

After 2500 + rounds I need to have my Criterion barrel set back and I am looking for a reliable shop that can give me a quote on rechambering in .204 and cutting new shank threads. It's a Savage so I will remove the barrel from the action and reinstall it. A new Kreiger or Criterion barrel runs arou...

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!

yep, thanks for the clarification skipper. BTW you nailed it on the carbon ring, with the barrel off the receiver I could see it. A good soaking with Hoppes 9 and a bronze chamber brush followed by a nylon bore brush to clean the throat seemed to do the trick. I will be heading back to the range in ...

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!

Hate to keep muddying the water here but just to be clear. On the farthest from center shot do we measure from the center of the bullet hole, the otside edge of the bullet hole opposite the bull, or the inside of that bullet hole. I am assuming the center of that bullet hole also. I will be using On...

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!

Until told otherwise, I am measuring outside to outside, with no deduction for caliber. group size, then a measurement for farthest, from center, then a total. Hope all other's do the same unless we are told otherwise. Bill K as long as all are doing the same that should not be a issue, but honestl...

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!

Check out the post on measuring group size. It may help. from post #1 Score your group in inches. Then measure distance from bulls-eye to your furthest shot. Add these two. That is your score for that target. nothing about whether the group size is measured center to center or edge to edge even whe...

Re: 2000 rounds and still shooting

My XR100 really loves RL 10X, but it has some drawbacks. The dreaded carbon ring buildup just past the throat of the barrel happens over time. I wouldn't have even known it was there if my wife hadn't called me to dinner one night when I was cleaning it. I had just started a patch soaked with bore ...

2000 rounds and still shooting

after the yearly shootout I decided to do a new load workup ladder for RL -10X just to see if the barrel is shot out. In the past this barrel has shot some .2's and .3's. Never had any yesterday but my old standby load did give me a couple of good groups. I shot 2 groups of 5 for each load. Interest...

Re: Hornady cases loose primer pockets on 5th reload

it could have just been a bad lot or a bad case. Same load I have been shooting forever and I seat my bullets as my loadmaster measures the next load of powder so no chance of a double charge. First time for me to ever had a primer just blow completely out. I have had a few get a black ring around t...

Re: Monthly Shootout: September 2017!!!

I am in. I will shoot some groups and also post a pic of my new shooting game that I play when bored of group shooting. 20 shots at 20 bulls at 100 or 200. The catch being the bulls are 1/4 inch with a 5/8ths 10 ring for the 100 yard and a 1 inch 10 ring with a 5/8ths bull at 200

Hornady cases loose primer pockets on 5th reload

had a primer blow yesterday, it was a mild load in some Hornady brass on it's 5th reload. No personal injury but the extractor broke removing the case which was very tight. Luckily I keep a couple of extra extractors and other parts on the shelf so I tore down and rebuilt the bolt entirely this morn...
