Re: First Prairie Dog Hunt of 2011--graphic photos

Hello SF, Very nice write-up as usual! Not too bad for your first PD hunt of 2011. Our weather out here in centeral Oregon hasn't been real very agreeable this year either. If we did get a nice day, I already had something that had to be done. Just the way it goes some times. One week-end of sage ra...

Re: North Dakota PD Hunt--Looooong Report with GRAPHIC Pics!!!

Hello Silverfox, Outstanding narrative and photos, as usual! It sure was nice that the wind cooperated, for a change. I noticed it is still nice and green out around the hills there. The heat we've had lately in Central Oregon has certainling turned everything brown. And our sage rats are long gone ...

Re: Rate of twist?

Ruger No. 1 , That's a tough question to answer without some addtional information. However, here's some links that might enlighten you a bit and help you make up your own mind. http://www.6mmbr.citymaker.com/barrelFAQ.html#24639 http://www.chuckhawks.com/rifle_twist_list.htm http://www.riflebarrel...

Lee C. I don't believe you can find the magazine at your local bookstore. Just follow this link and join the Varmint Hunters Association and you will get the magazine in the mail. http://www.varminthunter.org/ As noted by others, it is well worth the price to join and get the magazine every quarter...

Re: Rick in Oregon

Hey Rick, Glad to see you're at home and on the mend. You take it easy and don't get the itch to do something crazy. I've been there and there's only so many movies you can watch (nothing on TV most of the time) before you start to get a little stir crazy. That's when the trouble starts......resist ...

Re: Brand new reloader here, questions on the dies, confused.

Big_Bullseye, You've gotten a lot of good input on buying and setting up your reloading goodies. acloco gave you great advice on the Forester Co-Ax press. That's what I use as well. Here's a couple of things that no one else has mentioned. When you get a new die set, the manufacturer loads them up ...

Re: Tikka T3 Varmint Barrel

The Lilja barrel is a SS, fluted, 3 groove, 1 in 12" twist. Finished length is 26". The barrel was $459, including shipping.
Obviously chambering, cutting to length, bead blasting etc were additional charges by my local gunsmith.

Tikka T3 Varmint Barrel

I have a "take off" Tikka T3 CM Varmint barrel, .223 Rem, 1 in 8" twist, 23.5" long. Diameter at the muzzle is 0.865". This barrel has ZERO rounds down the tube (other than those shot at the Tikka factory). I removed this barrel and had a Lilja 3 groove .204 Ruger barrel ins...

Re: Finally finished - my new custom 204 - UPDATED

Hey RIO , Very nice! And if the one group you posted is any indicator of things to come, look out Skippy :D . Hope the weather improves for your four day shoot. This late spring, cold wind and occasionaly snow really sucks. We'll be looking for your photos and "sage rat safari" report when...

Re: Looong Silverfox ADC Outing on 4-7-2008--Lots of pics--Part

Silverfox - another great story from North DaColder, my friend! As usual, the descriptions, photos and ancedotes were outstanding. Looks like all your snow has disappeared.....at least that's a good thing. It looks like we're finally going to get a nice week-end to go out and chase the sage rats. K...

Re: Timney Triggers ?

It's too bad your initial experience with a Timney trigger was negative. Personally, I think they are one of the best aftermarket triggers on the market. I have several Timney triggers (> 10) and have installed them all. Some take a bit of fitting, some drop right in. As some of the other folks have...

Re: 221 fireball question...

cshooter As WrzWaldo replied, a .221 FB will work just fine for coyotes, PD's, sage rats, rabbits, badgers, etc. And, they are fun to shoot :D ! I bought a Stevens 200 in .223 Rem and yanked the barrel and installed a 24" HB in .221 FB. My favorite load for the FB is a Hornady 40 V-Max, CCI BR...
