Re: The Ruger No. 1

Hope everyone here is well. Got off my normal path this year. Life gets in the way some times. Ruger #1 I have always admired. My long time friend and GS owner passed a couple of years ago. I ended up with a#1 of his a heavy varmint in 220 swift. Then another gent I shot with and have known for many...

Re: The Ruger No. 1

A long time good friend and GS owner passed a while back. All the inventory was sold off. One last lingering rifle sat alone #1 varmint in 220 Swift. Everyone was scared of it because of possibly being shot out. His daughter told me a price and I bought it. I knew it came from a collection and if it...

Re: General Caliber and Rifle Questions.

I have zero CZ’s nothing against them as I used them for initial tryout of several cartridges. I went to Savage actions for %80 of my varmint rigs. Ya want on the cheap and good. Used 110 or other model savage, I don’t care for the cheaped up axis and others. 223 are cheap and plentiful, barrel off,...

The 38-55 is a 99% chance it slugs at .375. I run .377 cast bullets in my 375WW with good results, loaded at 38-55 pressures or up to full tilt 375’s. There were a few modern 38-55’s with .380 bores as I recall, but I don’t think Winchester was one of them. The recoil is more of a push than a snappy...

Re: turned quiet

Got out and shot a little Saturday and Sunday. Was supposed to be an IHMSA match, but with lack in new, younger, participant's it struggles. Yesterday I was the youngest @61, the oldest was 83. Have shot with all of these folks since the mid to late 80’s. All of the “things” I did to myself as young...

About like Christmas

I have Savage RBLP LRP that I bought some years back. It never made me real happy. Picked up a barrel from a fellow in 223 that had been cut down a bit and rechambered, was a LOT better, but…….I was already 223 poor with to many. Savage in its infinite wisdom with their goofy threes screw set up lea...

Re: The Annual 2024 Rat Rodeo

Ricks comments on the 20VT forgot to mention, trying to restrain myself from so many rifles. Taking 2, 223’s, 204, 20VT and 17WSM. I ran across some calhoon 20’s. The shot fantastic initially so I loaded them up in the VT, shot up some odds and ends of 32 grain vmax, fine accuracy. I cracked open a ...

Re: The Annual 2024 Rat Rodeo

One more week of work and then heading west for a few days. Last year mother’s day week was a mess, though the locals appreciated it. It was the most precip they had had in 16 months, almost 3” of rain. Roads were a mess, 4x4 was a must. Buddy in his wide car tires Tacoma didn’t put it in 4x4 and en...

The silly 3.44 screw spacing, not much in the way of aftermarket stocks or chassis. Mine is soon to be a 4.41, back hole is there but not tapped, plenty of room for the front one.

May as well fill in the blanks as to the build, nothing special really. Zermatt TL3 Shilen select 1-9”, full bull Trigger Tech Diamond straight blade KRG Bravo Arken 5-25 Couple of guys told me to go to a different barrel, I didn’t want to add another year to the project, I have and have had numerou...

Re: 20 BR anyone

This project came after a phone call to Todd Kindler about three years ago, the call lasted close to 2 hours. I learned a fair bit in the conversation. My whole main purpose is to shoot a prairie dog at 1000. I will not be the first by any means. They are no chip shot at that range with any rig. Fin...

Re: 20 BR anyone

I ran this up .5 at a time to 30.5. With the 30.0 load I still gained 40 FPS, numbers were not what I was looking for. 30.5 I only gained an average of 10 FPS, but SD 7 and ES 10. Powder is just into the shoulder, if compressed it is very very little. Groups were still under MOA@100. Now to tinker w...

Re: My New rifle and new member

Those four powders, I have used them all. I used a lot of CCI 400 primers for years with no issues. Don’t know if it was a lot issue or what, but one summer I started popping them loaded with R10X loads. I have since went to 450’s or 71/2’s no more issues.
YMMV

Re: My New rifle and new member

That Fiocchi ammo was some of the best factory ammo I ever shot, price was right back then too.
Buddy bought a CZ 204 and that is what he shot. He says he struggles to get hand loads to shoot as good.

I think I am official as an OF

Not here but else where, asking questions that are pretty much elementary to my way of thinking. I don’t think anyone reads published books or literature anymore. If it is not on some form of social media they either don’t believe or don’t see it. Speed and pressure goes, hand in hand, no way around...
