Re: Missed Cougar Hunt

Nice Cat for Sure. Congrats to your friend. Odd question, do you know if he ate any of the meat. I've heard they aren't all that bad. Not sure, but doubtful. I know he missed his flight because he was processing the hide to take back. No mention of anything else. If it is decent, I am sure the outf...

6mm Remington Light Bullets

My .244 and 6mm Remington (I have one of each) have been fed 80-95 gr. bullets for years and done well. I came across some 55 gr. Nosler Varmageddon and 58 gr. V-Max and wanting to give them a try. Anyone have any experience using light bullets in this caliber? I would normally just try a few differ...

Re: found CFE223

CFE 223 was THE powder that got me my best groups. BLC-2, IMR 4895 and Vihtavuori N130 has also worked well. I was only able to find a pound too, but am on the lookout for more. I have a couple of pounds of Pro-Varmint that I haven't tried yet, but will soon.

Good luck.

Re: 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon

I just picked up 500 off the Nosler site. $29.95/250 is a great price.

Thanks for all the input.

Missed Cougar Hunt

My best friend from College talked me into doing a Cougar hunt with him in Southern Utah a couple of years ago. He and I did a ton of varmint/predator hunting, trapping, dove, and pretty much anything else during legal hunting seasons. My Mom inherited a large ranch in Central Texas and his family o...

Very devious skipper...but I like it. I can ask around for other shooters.

Re: 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon

I have enough CFE to last for awhile and looking forward to trying some with the VG. The upper middle target was using Vihtavuori N130 and it worked pretty well.

Anyone use Pro Varmint in their 204? I have a couple of pounds of it.

Thanks Rick. Will look into those.

32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon

Anyone have a good load (or powder) for this bullet. I've come up with a couple of pretty good loads, but nothing that knocks my socks off.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 2022 Five Shot Challenge Input Needed

Sounds like fun Skipper. I just spent a day last week at the range doing some shooting with my 204, 270 Win, and 308 Win. Mixed results, but still happy with my 204. Here are some 10 shot strings.

Re: 2022 Five Shot Challenge Input Needed

I will be in. I just had another Vascular surgery, so hope to be in shape soon. 200 yards would be fine for me, but I have not shot my .204 at that distance yet. I like leaving it at the .204. I have many other calibers, but since this is a .204 group, that just makes sense.

Re: Summer of 2021 Challenge Winners Circle

Bill K sent me some brass a couple of years ago. If it wasn't for him, I would have never been able to compete. I was able to try a bunch of different powders and bullets because of him. It was my ability to try different loads that I did what I did. I never thought that my target would be in the to...

Re: Is the Cost of Reloading really worth it?

I have a Custom .244 Remington that my Dad built for my Mom in the late 50's. It is the same as my 6mm Remington with a slower twist. It has issues with heavier bullets, but I found that the Berger 88 gr. Varmint bullet shoots really well out of it. The best load is really odd over the chrony. It ha...

Re: reloading for Browning Predator Hunter

Stop chasing FPS, remember a accurate load, placed in the proper spot, trumps FPS, every time. Work a ladder test and find a couple of the most accurate loads in YOUR rifle. Then if you want you can check what the FPS is for it. :) As Bill K noted, chasing FPS will only get you into trouble. My Dad...

Re: Is the Cost of Reloading really worth it?

As many have noted, reloading is pleasurable and although not always cost effective, I know I am loading the best possible ammo possible. That being said. I quit loading pistol several years ago simply because I don't shoot a lot of it anymore and no longer need super accurate 44 Magnum and other hu...

Re: lets talk powder.....

I left out that I tried Vihta Vuori N130 and some Pro Varmint too. They both showed some promise, but not like the CFE 223 powder. I will try some different bullet depths I don't own a sled, so my groups are also limited by my ability to shoot from the bench which I have done for well over 50 years ...
