Re: Booner of a Chuck
That's quite a chuck! Big ol' rascal, and kind of cool looking.
Good job! Who would think such a big fat chuck could live so long, so close to Rick's place?

Rockchuck meets the .375 H&H Number One
I'm not a die-hard varminter, but I'll take a pot shot at a rockchuck or a ground squirrel when the opportunity presents itself. Today I had the .375 at the range, checking out some old ammo from an old friend. He loaded this stuff up back in 1982, when he was heavy into hunting with the .375 H&...

Re: Finally....a break!
Rick - beautiful rifles, those Coopers. Dang... I understand about the old truck. Sold an old full size Chevy Blazer with winch, 33" mudders and an Auburn limited slip about 11 years ago. Still see it around town now and then. I'd bought it brand new and had set it all up myself. Dang I liked t...

Re: Why aren't my woodchucks exploding?
Yup. My .204 takes chunks out of rockchucks/marmots, but my son uses a 6mm Rem and it often just rips 'em up real bad.

Re: Your Best/Favorite Deer Hunting Rifles?
KiwiMonkey - nice looking rifle! The Hawkeye is a very nice update of the good old Model 77, which was a mighty good rifle itself.
Something to be said for only having one hunting rifle, particularly if it's a good one like yours.
Regards, Guy

Re: 7mm stw Thoughts
macjl5 - It's a very simple job for a gunsmith to convert many 7mm mag rifles to a 7mm STW, if the magazine box is long enough. On a Remington 700, it's long enough. In that case, all that is needed, is to run the STW reamer into the existing 7mm Rem mag chamber, enlarging it to take the bigger cart...

Re: What caliber other than .204 for vermin?
My son really likes his old 6mm Remington for rockchucks, coyotes and mule deer. It smacks a rock chuck real hard... I've grown real fond of my .25-06 mule deer rifle for coyotes. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/612eee71.jpg Light bullets shoved fast through a .308 a...

Congrats on your cow elk, and on finding those two racks. BTW - that rifle you built looks terrific.

Re: 7mm stw Thoughts
majcl5 - Do you have any experience with the good old 7mm Remington mag? What do you intend to do with your 7mm STW or 7mm RUM? The good old 7mm Rem mag is a mighty fine cartridge, and more potent than some load manuals would have you believe. I had no problem, using "book" loads, getting ...

That's pretty neat... quiet 1/4" groups w/no recoil.
Very cool.
