Re: 2008 plans?
acloco - Yup. I brought home a big ol' 6x6 elk rack and nearly 300 pounds of meat from a hunt in Wyoming several years back. Wife was used to venison, but truly didn't like most of the elk. I dunno why, the boys and I thought it tasted great. :D Anyway, I'm not real interested in filling the freezer...

2008 plans?
This year I've got bear, deer and cougar tags for Washington again. Bumping into a cougar while I'm out is kind of unlikely, but it's happened before. I like to have the tag in my pocket just in case. No real big hunting plans this year; mule deer here in Washington with friends & family. We hav...

Re: .308 out of box ACCURACY
Sure - shoot me a question anytime. I don't keep up with the latest & greatest rifles from the big manufacturers very well, but Savage sure has impressed me with the quality/accuracy of their rifles over the past few years. I shoot primarily Remington & Winchester bolt guns - but if I was st...

Re: Preferred barrel?
Aww... Fat lotta help you guys were! :D Now I know that for best results I should go with one of the well-respected custom barrel makers. Doh! Like I didn't already know that??? :wall: Laughing here guys - lightheartedly. I figured everyone would have their favorites - and I do understand th...

Re: .308 out of box ACCURACY
Danny, since you've already got a couple of Savage rifles - consider the relatively new Savage F/TR in .308 Win: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/12-F-TR-Target-Rifle.jpg This thing offers match-winning accuracy right out of the box. A shooting buddy of mine, Monte Mi...

Preferred barrel?
Eventually the factory barrel on my little CZ will wear out... That's what barrels do. Is there a preferred custom maker for the .204 barrels? Mostly I've been shooting .308's and have used primarily Krieger. Those nice cut-rifled barrels are a favorite of the long-range prone shooters, and NRA high...

Re: Velocitiy
Just happen to have my initial 32 & 40 grain factory ammo tests in front of me at the moment... 32 grain Hornady factory V-Max loads clocked an average of 3905 fps from my little CZ. They didn't shoot nearly as well as the 40 grain V-Max ammo from my rifle, so I've never messed with the 32 grain...

Re: BLC-2 powder W/ 40 grn tips?
Am currently at 29 grains of BL-C(2), with 40 gr V-Max and Hornady cases. Tell you the truth - I don't seem to be able to find my notes with the chrono readings. Odd, must have misplaced 'em. Hornady factory 40 grainers clocked 3676 fps, with a tight SD of 6, and decent accuracy from the little CZ s...

Re: Timney Triggers ?
Have a Timney in a 1917 .30-06, made a big difference over the original military two-stage trigger. Huge improvement. Had a Rem 700 Sendero with a Timney too - nice shooter and the trigger was good. No problems with either.

Re: 25/06 bullet selection.
Just want to try something different. The Barnes TSX worked quite well, with penetration to spare. I was impressed with the Berger hunting video and also with the accuracy I've seen from those VLD bullets - so I thought I'd give 'em a try. A couple of friends have tried them, 210 grainers on elk fro...
