Re: Barrel Quality????
Critter, the "varmint" models like Rick's seem to perform better than the standard models. I've heard that this is largely because of the scope mounting system, which is much different from the "quarter rib" found on the standard rifles. I've had two Ruger Number One rifles - and...

Re: Wyoming mulie
Sorry - yes, he's a 4x4 plus eyeguards, about 16 - 17" wide and 24+ inches tall. Nailed him with a .25-06 Rem 700 CDL, which has become my favorite deer rifle. Load was a 100 grain Barnes TSX loaded to 3340 fps mv. I used H4350, Winchester brass and Federal 210 match primers. Put the loads toge...

Wyoming mulie
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/Wyobuck02.jpg With the help of some very gracious people who allowed me to hunt their property, I was able to take this tall Wyoming mulie. Wasn't sure the hunt was even going to happen. My guided hunt with the outfitter fell through,...

Re: Bull Elk - Use Enough Gun!
This deer hunter was a little intimidated by the prospect of possibly shooting a 700+ pound animal when I went elk hunting. Chose my 7mm Rem mag, but loaded it up with those long & deadly 175 grain Nosler Partitions at about 2930 fps. Warm load. :D The Nosler worked just fine and I took a dandy ...

Critter and Rick, those are a couple of beauties! Thanks for posting the photos. Ray, that Anschutz sounds like one heck of a rifle... They're shooters!

Re: Looking for a single shot.....in .25-06
I had a very nice Ruger Number One varminter in .25-06, that's the model with the heavier barrel and a different scope mounting system. The previous owner had also massaged the trigger a bit. It was one heck of a shooter, with no problem beating .5" at 100 yards with 100 grain Sierra SPBT Gamek...

Re: 7mm Remington Magnum - What is your pet load?
Am a big fan of the 7mm Remington mag and have used it on critters from coyote to big bull elk. Over the years I've worked up several good loads but a favorite was given to me by the good folks at the Sierra Tech Line: 65 grains of Reloader 22, a Federal 215 mag primer, and their 160 grain SPBT Game...

Re: An August afternoon harvest
Nice shooting and good photos. Thanks! The little 85 gr Sierra performed about as I'd expect: dead deer and little bullet left. Works out just fine!
Quite a few of those deer there?

Bones - if you're carrying for self defense, it would be real smart to take a basic defensive handgun course from a qualified instructor. Knowing when and how to use the gun is a lot more important than if you're packing a Ruger or a Kimber or a Sig or a Glock or whatever. Any good, reliable defensi...

Hey congratulations on the tag - that's got to be a tough one to draw! I hope you're not contemplating a long shot in a 50 mph crosswind. Drawing on a lot of long-range shooting experience, I'd say that's pretty much impossible under field conditions. Depending of course on what you mean by long ran...

When I get results like that top picture - I'm the culprit. Looks like three shots almost on top of each other and one way out to the right? Am I reading that right? Rem 700 triggers are pretty easy to tune, and also very easy to replace. A good trigger can make a huge difference in group size. Rem ...
