Re: bench rests

Secret, your humility is duly noted. Despite your dabbling, the end result of your rest is still impressive, and I'm sure it works very well for getting above the grass and weeds in great fashion. It sure looks great to me FWIW. I'm not a BR shooter either, just rats, but I've been accused of the sa...

Re: bench rests

Secret : Nice job there, sir, very well done! :wtg: I'm assuming you are a dedicated BR shooter by the looks of your design, also a skilled man in the machine shop. When it comes to our passion, nothing is considered 'over the top', and your example of front rest shows both your interest and skill....

Re: bench rests

Well Shaky, lot's of options on this one. My setup is what has evolved over 50 years of live varmint shooting. Not the panacea by any means, but I've used about every conceivable combination of bench and bench rest setup over that time; laying on the ground with a bipod, off the truck hood, from fix...

Re: 20 BR anyone

Barrel makers are people too, they have to stay in business or we're outa luck next time a barrel goes south!

After all, think about all the fun a guy has burning out that barrel!

Re: 20 BR anyone

jsh, glad to hear you've reached your goal with your 20BR...nice when a plan comes together.

Question: What is the intended purpose of this rifle now that you've found 'the' load? Seems like it would be a great chuck rifle for extended range shooting. Inquiring minds and all that.....

Re: My New rifle and new member

In all my rat rifles, I use the Remington 7-1/2 primer. As Skipper notes, it has a thick cup to resist the high pressure of the 204R and other high intensity cartridges. As K22 mentioned, it was specifically designed and intended for the 17 Remington, a high intensity cartridge. To that end, there w...

Re: My New rifle and new member

I listed the powders I've seen the best results with, and will freely admit there are others that also work, as we all know every rifle is a rule unto itself. I also have used the Remington 7-1/2 primer almost exclusively in all my 204's, previously to that, I used the Federal Match SRP, 205M with g...

Re: My New rifle and new member

I corrected that load to list CFE 223, and not CFE BLK which is a bit too fast for this application. You must have seen it just prior to me correcting my mistake. Sorry about that. Another tidbit you may consider......shooting this caliber from a fixed mount such as the Lead Sled will not giv...

Re: My New rifle and new member

Shaky, over the years, I've accumulated over 25 loading manuals from all the major bullet makers. Every year I get the annual Hodgeon manual off the news stand, plus the annual Handloader Magazine annual. There are literally hundreds of loads published for every caliber of handgun and rifle in these...

Re: My New rifle and new member

Shaky, for proven powders in the 204, my suggestions are: H335 RL-10X Benchmark CFE 223 From my own personal experience and pet loads listed here, these are the most popular powders in this caliber for good speed and accuracy, accuracy being the first priority. There are others of course that may pe...

Re: Leupold VX recticle change

The Leupold Custom Shop is not taking orders at this time. In the recent past, that reticle change ran $65, and many of my scopes were modified at nominal cost such as adding the excellent M1 elevation turret and said reticle changes. When asked when these services would resume, we were told "n...

Re: My New rifle and new member

Shaky, good to have another experienced veteran here with us. You and I are not the only vets here, many are registered, many lurk. I see you intend to shoot the 40gr V-Max. I'm sure by now you've done some reading here and elsewhere, and have learned that the 40gr bullets are at the ragged edge of ...

Re: My New rifle and new member

Welcome, Shaky!

I'm sure that Ruger will serve you well. Are you shooting factory, or are you a handloader? If you're a handloader, you've got a treasure trove of experience and information available here in past posts.

Do you shoot paper or hair? Where are you located?

Re: I think I am official as an OF

Agree. There's no accounting for other people's children. The reading and math comprehension of our nation is at an all time low. Big surprise with the radical teachers unions calling the shots and indoctrinating the kids instead of actually teaching them. Gender identity is now more important to th...
