Rat Rodeo Preps
Well, seeing as the forum seems to need a bit of a boost, I'll check in and yak about getting ready for the annual Rat Rodeo in the Orygun outback this year. The crew is all loading up ammo, getting trailers ready to come out of winter hibernation, and getting rifles and handguns staged early. Seems...

Re: The plunk test
Tom, in regard to the 'plunk test', keep in mind this test is valid only for the specific pistol you're loading for, and is a good way to ensure the round will chamber properly, but I'd recommend also having a chamber checker on the bench also, as these are chambered with actual .45 or 9mm chamberin...

Re: Alter Obsessions
Well Skipper I am starting to see we have a lot in common. We both admire the USMC (I was not in the service), we both love guitar music (I dont play!) and we both love boats. Tom, in pure jest I say..... "If the Marines are there, the NAVY got them there!" Ask me how I know.......

Re: Alter Obsessions
Besides guns, what's your alternate obsession??? Mine? Ocean scuba diving and spearfishing for rock and ling cod, mainly in the San Juan Islands in WA state. Getting down around 60 -80', checking out the caves and overhangs in the wall faces for those huge Lings. Great fun, adventure and very tasty...

Re: Shooting bag filler material choices
pdlwsnchr.jpg This is how a younger, poorer Tom Kat went after prairie dogs.... Tom, everyone starts out frugally and advances from there. At least you got out with your rifle and got after the PD's in proper fashion. Most of my crew and I started out laying on carpet mats on the ground with bipods...

Re: Shooting bag filler material choices
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be set up in one spot for a prolonged session, but seldom is the case in the areas I tend to frequent. Paul, we shoot almost exclusively our Belding's Ground Squirrels in the alfalfa fields. These little critters are much more tolerant of gunfire, are much more stupi...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
Hi Jim. Yes, how true it is...having one Cooper rifle does lead to having/needing another, as the 204R will be joining a Cooper model 21 in 223. Will this morph into still yet another Cooper rifle ending up in the gun safe? Never say never... :chin: Paul, it might be a good thing personally for me ...

Re: You help on brass orginazation-
Tom, for a suggestion, consider my method of keeping all loaded ammo and brass in military .50 cal and .30 cal cans and label each one. The pic below shows one stack of my cans, there being four of these stacks in my gun room. Pistol and revolver ammo is separated from hunting and varmint brass and ...

Re: Thoughts on cleaning methods and tumbling media-
Everyone has what they consider to be the hot setup for cleaning their fired brass, myself included. Pretty simple and basic for me, nothing really new or exotic. I've been using Lyman tumbling media now since 1979 in my vibratory dry tumbler. My tumbled (vibe'd) brass looks like new when done. One ...

Re: Shooting bag filler material choices
Rick, who's the poor point man in that picture? Looks like he's in your shooting lane. Well Skipper, it appears you're not familiar with colony rodent shooting in irrigation pivots, so let me clarify.... Imagine a 480 acre crop circle. In the center is the irrigation pump, well and center pivot tha...

Re: Kimber contour Lilja barrel
K22..... your screen name is creating some confusion here and elsewhere. There has been another fellow I'm very familiar with who started using that name on Accurate Shooter, Saubier and other forums over 15 years ago. He's in PA and has recently discovered you using the name "K22" also no...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?
Nice stock wood on those two Coopers there, Jimmy! For routine factory stock wood offerings, Cooper was pretty much at the top of the pile during their production period. It's most likely now a thing of the past, as I have zero hope NH will continue what the MT Cooper factory did for so many years. ...
