Re: question on a new cooper 204
some 12 twists will handle most bullets up to and including 40 grainers. Some will not but usually shoot the 39g SBK without problem. My 12 twist (actually my wife's) really likes 32 grain SBKs. Part of your fun will be finding out what diet you Cooper thrives on. I'd start with the bullet/powder co...

Re: Accuracy issues with Savage Model 10/110 Predator
This link will probably answer your questions. It's my favorite AR. Personally, I can't make 40 grainers work in a 12 twist. I've had excellent luck with H322.

Re: Accuracy issues with Savage Model 10/110 Predator
Not sure how much of a voucher I am, but my home made upper shoots great. Shilen 9 twist and nosler 40 g give me consistent results around .5 moa.
Wifes savage shoots 32g SBKs well with a 12 twist barrel.

Re: KANSAS PRARIE DOG HUNTING
ALP- We've shot in western Kansas/eastern Colorado but because of protracted drought, and other factors, the numbers are down a bunch. I was shocked to see the total lack of vegetation. I can't speak to the poison issue but I know it happens. Usually, plague is the big population controller. This Ju...

Nice Colorado Whitetail
Young man who works for me scored this bruiser out on the plains. Old boy was a fighter. Ear split top to bottom, broken points and hardly a tooth in his jaw. I had a chance at 9 other bucks but none came close to this one. How could I take one smaller than the young man? I'd never hear the end of i...

Re: wtb cooper
Bob, I can tell you for sure that it stings to pay for those comp seater dies, and the sting goes away when you use them. I'm using Redding across the board (type S) for the VT and everything is good. I'm also neck turning and annealing prior to first load. Nosler brass has been good to work with an...

Re: Barrel length
My wife shoots a 26" and all mine are 24". I take hers out of the case and put it on the bench. I take hers off the bench and put it in the case. You get the picture. I took hers on a p-dog hunt this past summer and found it a bit cumbersome for walking around. However, I do like shooting ...

Re: .090 jump?
No real secret. I picked my bullet (Sierra 39g) and when the "shortage" screwed with us, I had to go to Nosler 40g. Using Nosler data, I picked a powder I had plenty of (H322) and started working up loads keeping seat depth constant. Kept finding a node at a certain charge weight that gave...

Re: .090 jump?
I also agree. Load to AR specs and forget the jump. Like you said, unless you go single shot, there's nothing you can do about it. I have the same barrel and it shoots just fine. I don't even know what the jump is. I'll accept this from an AR any time (yeah, I know, I yanked one). http://i1359.photo...

Re: Can I safely extrapolate 1 caliber to another
I realize I should be more specific....sorry. Using Benchmark as the filler, a 204 case holds, on average, 31.5 grains. A 17 TAC case holds 28.5 grains. The 17 TAC has 90.5% of the 204 ruger capacity. Currently shooting 27.3 grains of Benchmark with 32 grain Sierras. So the specific question is....i...

Can I safely extrapolate 1 caliber to another
I carefully measured the capacity of case A and Case B which is a different caliber. Case A holds almost exactly 3 grains more than case B. Can I safely reduce the safe load I'm using in Case A by 3 grains and use it in case B? I'm thinking of going 3.5 grains less for a 0.5 grain safety factor. Bul...

Re: Laser boresighter for 204
Here's a trick I learned years ago. Works with any caliber and gets me within 4-6 inches every time. Last time I did it (last week) I was 2" high and 1" right at 100. It's free but you need to do it at night. Find a street light (yard light, etc.) 2-300 yards away. Bag/rest/secure your rif...

Toasty....what part of the country are you finding white tails? We shot them in NW Colorado and Southern Wyoming.
