Re: 6x45mm twist rate
Thanks so much guys… That’s the way I was heavily leaning, but then you start to second-guess yourself.

6x45mm twist rate
I plan on getting one of my bolt action rifles re-chambered in 6x45mm but my choice of twist rates are 1:14 or 1:10. I plan to shoot between 60 to 85 grain bullets. The 1:14 will not handle the 85’s, but should be fine with the 60’s to 70’s. The 1:10 will do all of the bullets plus more, but at the...

Re: press lubrication
I was told by a person at Dillon to use mobile one synthetic… Works good on their press and I use it on my others too. Again, have to keep it clean and lubed.

221 Fireball powder
For those that have a 221 fireball, what powder do you use? I have a number of 20 Vartargs that I shot, do you use the same? Found great success with H-4198. Any other recommendations?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Hand Primer
I just got one about a week ago and I really like it. Before I would just use the press with the priming arm and things worked ok, would seat them a little too deep at times. I have a few rifles with a slightly shorter firing pin and would get lite strikes from time to time. The hand primer is fully...

Re: 39gr. Sierra with H335 Powder
Sierra lists it as a universal firearm with a 24 inch barrel and a 1:11 twist. If I had to guess probably bolt action.

Re: 221 Fireball Build
It really likes the same load as my Cooper 20 VT......a 5 shot group measures .330 from center to center at 100 yards with Sierra 32 gr. BlitzKings using H4198.

Re: 221 Fireball Build
Ok..... a small set back on the 221 Fireball build. While visiting a somewhat local shop for the first time, they had a 20 Vartarg rifle built on a Savage Target action. Has a custom Shilen barrel and with a nice bedded stock. So I went ahead and picked it up. It is a very heavy rifle. I took it out...

Re: 221 Fireball Build
Thanks to everyone that has replied with your help and advise. I will keep checking the sites for a used Remington or CZ chambered in 221 fireball. Maybe even hold out hope for a Cooper that is more reasonably priced.

Re: 20 Caliber Hornady 45 gr. SP
I went ahead and ordered 100 as a trial… With my barrel having a 1:11 twist want to see how they perform. I will go ahead and start a load work up and will let you know.

20 Caliber Hornady 45 gr. SP
Does anyone have experience in reloading with the Hornaday 45 grain SP Bullets? I have a 20 Vartarg I was thinking of trying them in. I did a test measurement with them for overall length and was surprised how much I had to shorten my seating depth compared to other 20 caliber projectiles.

Re: 221 Fireball Build
Thank Bill for the reply.....I guess my first choice is to find a used Remington and go from there. If I remember correctly most of 2000 era Remingtons came with the J locks on the bolts, but that can always be replaced with a new firing pin assembly. I have heard CZ’s are good, but never owned one.

221 Fireball Build
Looking for advise in my next rifle. Already have a 204 Ruger and a 20 Vartarg. Wanting a 221 fireball with a 24” barrel and a 1:12 twist. Looking to shoot up to 50 gr. BlitzKings. Sadly due to the cost I can’t justify a Cooper (rather have one more). I see where I can build a ER Shaw MKVII rifle at...

Re: 20 VarTarg Build?
As to your question about loaded ammo...I have seen Hendershots Sporting Goods and American Custom Ammo both list they have loaded ammo for the 20 Vartarg. A word of caution, I have a friend get some ammo for their 20 VT and it would not fit the chamber. Had to pull the bullets and run the cases thr...
