Well okay, I hunted birds for 40 years, lots of great memories, but I was under the impression we were discussing rifles, barrels, and neck turning. :chin:

Jim White wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 6:51 pm Rick...did you change the barrels yourself or have someone do it for you? Just curious because I'm curious about the timing and cylinder alignment.

Thanks,
I had my local friend/smith do that. Not a job for the uneducated or unskilled if not familiar with setting a revolver up properly.

Re: New barrel

jsh, are you talking about neck turned cases? I just keep about 25 - 30 fully prepped cases on hand. I take care of them and only replace whenever in need. Once fired they are fire formed to my chamber and only get neck sized until the need to bump the shoulders back. I have no need for a thousand ...

Re: New barrel

You threw me Rick. Is the supposed to be 39 SBK instead of 30 grn ? Correct Bill. Good catch, just typing too fast. My error has been corrected, thanks. I'm not speaking for Rick, however if your smith creates a non-SAMMI chambering they will usually stamp the side of the barrel. My custom 204 Ruge...

Re: Winter wonderland

I don't take the cold like I did when younger, but I still like cool weather way better than the high heat you guys in Texas and Az get. Anything above 80 is to hot for me. :D Same for me Bill, and exactly why I live where I do. Humidity really kills me, as after a full year in RVN with super high ...

Re: New barrel

Well Jeff, you could call Pac-Nor for one of their SS Super Match barrels, and if you're after a tight chamber to match spec's, I'll give you my reamer print number that's on file there. You can spec out your barrel on their website, then call and work out the finer details. PM me if you want the pr...

Re: Winter wonderland

Woke up this morning to 10" on the ground. This is the result of me NOT buying a snow blower for years, saying if I did buy one, it would not snow for the next five years to any degree. Well, it's now been those five years, and guess what? :wall:

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?

Plus one on the Lilja barrels. I'm amazed at the bench accuracy of this barrel. Right bolt left port has its advantages when shooting groups. Becomes second nature. And that configuration is the hot setup when bench shooting PD's or ground squirrels too. I wish more manufacturers offered that confi...

Re: What's Your Carry of Choice

Wheelguns in the woods? Oh yeah! :wtg: Normally it's a .44 Mag for me, usually my Smith Classic Hunter 3" unfluted cylinder, full lug. BUT when I want a .357, it's my Smith M686 4". I had it as a six incher for years, normally for coyotes out the truck window, but two years ago I wanted a ...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?

Paul, check your PM's IRT the Lilja barrel. I'll add that I've got a few Lilja's, and all have been tip-top in every regard....very accurate and easy to clean up after a hot time in the rat patch. The 11T is most likely the very best twist for the 204R, and why the factories did not change over to t...

Tom, you might also want to list a WTB over on Saubier. LOTS of small caliber shooters over there.

I've got about half a box if that's of interest. Let me know. I'll trade for 32gr SBK's if possible, or you can cash me out...either way, no biggie.

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?

Rick it seems your gettin' furrgetful. Better send that Kimber my way so as to not have to keep track of it no more. HA! But you're right. A lifetime of buying and trading guns, a safe so full that I occasionally "find" something in the back that hasn't been seen in a few ...

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?

Paul, I totally forgot the Kimber 84M Varmint, which I also have in 204R and forgot to list....sorry. I have done nothing to mine whatsoever, it's still factory stock, even the trigger, which is completely acceptable for a walkabout rifle, right at 2.5 lbs after some tweaking. I got this one for a w...
