Re: Coyotes 1/29/11

furhntr,

I was shooting at a downward angle with the coyote not quite directly facing me and hit a little right hitting it in the flank with the bullet exiting between it's legs. The bullet's exit opened up its belly.

Three more 2/5/11

Yesterday morning I went out to the creek bottom where I had found the coyotes were running the frozen creek last weekend and was going to set up on the east hill so I would be down wind and also to see them coming. About 300+ yards across the bottom was the dead cow the coyotes had been working on ...

Coyotes 1/29/11

Last Sat. morning, I decided I wouldn’t go hunting because of a head cold I had but by 8 am the sun was out and it had warmed into the 20’s so I decided I would go out to one of the places I hunt to do some scouting. We have had snow on the ground here since early Jan. and I wanted to see where the ...

Kansas trip

Back in December, my friend Dave invited me to go to Kansas to hunt bobcat and coyote with him and his friend Lamar. Well, early Sunday morning on 1/16 we headed for Kansas. We arrived out there late afternoon and met Lamar’s future son-in-law, Charlie. After introductions, Charlie took us out to me...

furhntr,
I'm in Macoupin county.

ryutzy,
I know what you're saying about a vehicle in sight. They are usually pretty weary about vehicles.

12/27 and 12/29, three more.

12/27/10 This morning I didn’t get out before daylight like I usually do. It was about 13 degrees and the snow was crunchy so I did some things around the house and went out about 8:30. I wanted to come in on the back side of one place I hunt just for something different and also because the ...

12/19/10 Two more.

Last Sunday morning I got up at my usual time around 4-4:30, put the coffee on and stepped outside to see what the weather was doing. There was a lite dusting of snow on the deck and I thought that would make it more interesting to try and call up a coyote. I had my coffee and checked the NOAA web s...

12/15/10 coyote

Yesterday I realized I had 4.5 hours of vacation time that weren’t scheduled and I had to take them today or lose them, so I took them this morning and went coyote hunting. I went to one of my places I couldn’t hunt until the owner had gotten his deer and made two stands without any lu...

12/13/10 coyote

Last night when I pulled into the driveway, I flipped the brights on to see if anything was out at the carcass pile of deer from our hunts that my youngest son, Ethan, a junior in college, had staked down by the 200 yard backstop. Ethan is our deer skinner and butcher. He told Lucas and I a few year...

Re: Second season and muzzle loader season.

Dennis,

In my experience, the slugs don't usually make a real big exit hole but they sure tear up a lot of tissue and bone on the way through.

Second season and muzzle loader season.

Even though this is about deer hunting, it could just as well go in the Predator section. 12/2/10 Thursday Today was the first day of our second deer firearms season here in IL. The forecast was predicting a few flurries which started about an hour before first light as I parked the truck. Today I d...

Re: 11/18/10 Deer

Mike, We haven't seen any sign of disease around here, I believe there are just fewer deer. This is the third year in a row we have noticed fewer deer. We haven't been seeing them around the edge of fields in the early or late hours of the day where we used to see them. I'm in Macoupin county and th...

Re: 11-26-10 Double

Jason,
With the luck you've been having hunting at night, you should sleep during the day and hunt all night. Gotta' love the .204!
