Re: Man 8, Gopher 1 - Canadian's need our help!

acloco: I've got two points for this one: 1. With all the rat shooters we have here from western Canada, I'm surprised they didn't get in on the act with their rifles before those two bufoons let loose with their Rodenator device. 2. Being a Canadian originally myself (US Citizen now, and proud of ...

Re: Deer hunting ranch style??

ROTFLMAO! What a hoot! Around these parts, we call that a Deer Rodeo.

If I ever feed my rancher buddies cattle again, and deer are about, you can bet I'll remember that story.....

Re: need "where to" prairie dog info, please

Sammy: As you own a varmint rifle and showed up here interested in PD's, I'd assume you subscribe to The Varmint Hunter Magazine. If you look inside at the classified section, you'll see a slew of guides and landowners who will, for a fee, either guide you for your shoot, or let you shoot on their ...

Re: Barrel break-in for semi-auto?

VA Varm: Congrats on your new piece. There's nothing like a new gun to make us happy.

But remember, having rifles AND pistols is what it's all about! A guy just can't have too many guns! ;)

Re: Barrel break-in for semi-auto?

FWIW, I agree completely with Glenn about his new pistol routine, and do the exact same thing. You're not generating over 50,000 psi of pressure in a long barrel at over 3,000 fps, so buy it, clean it, and go shoot it. Clean it when you get home, lube it properly, and it's ready for you when you nee...

Re: Longest revolver shot?

Rick: Yep, I've been there, done that many times just for the "graphic effect" and the resulting laughter. Skippy flying in pieces up to 20' in the air IS something to be experienced for sure. But I'd much rather use my 204 and like calibers for those rats waaaay out there. This is the ex...

Re: tight cases.......

cs: Our buddy scootertrash is spot-on as usual with his answer. Assuming you're shooting a factory rifle with a factory chamber, just consider bumping the shoulder back just a tad with your F/L die as soon as the same lot of cases start to show that resistence to the bolt closing with only a slight...

Re: How to best clean these cases?

homefront: At operating pressures in excess of 50,000 psi, there is not enough residue of any kind left in the case to cause even the slightest amount of reduced case volume. Don't sweat the microscopic stuff, there are much more important things to fret about when handloading, and this is not one ...

Re: Opinion about Taurus handguns.

VA Varm: You did not say what you want the pistol for, but to me, and this purely subjective on my part, Ruger semi-auto centerfire pistols are overly 'clunky', bulky, and unnecessarly large and hard to conceal compared to competing brands. As far as 'step-up' goes, any name brand pistol made in th...

Re: Anyone using surplus powders?

As both are/were used in the 5.56 NATO round, the burning rate is almost identical to W748, so you could start with starting loads and work up.

Re: 32 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips

From Nosler No.6, 32gr BT Varget Start: 27.0 - 3811 fps Max: 29.0 - 4043 fps Personally, I'd use Benchmark, Tac, IMR 4198 (most accurate powder tested) H322, H335, or RL10X before I'd use Varget for a 32gr bullet in the 204, but that's just me. It's a tad slow for what you are doing. W748 in the No...

Re: Holster for MKIII Target with Ultradot

TD-M: Captqc being the resourceful, inventive type, surprised me on one rat safari with the rig he modified below for my Ruger MK-I 5.5" Bull Barrel Target with the Leupold/Gilmore LG-1 Red dot sight mounted. He's got one for his MK-III Hunter, and they work most excellent. It's still a Fruit ...

Can Elk Swim?

This one can! These shots were taken here of a nice 7 point bull swimming across a creek. He's a nice 7 point Roosevelt bull in his prime, well fed and fiesty. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g66/packrat1/swiminelk.jpg Does anyone have a towel waiting?..... http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g66/pa...

Re: How to best clean these cases?

My method is exactly like yotesmoker 's to a tee (walnut media). No sense tumbling without the fired primers seated and clog up the pocket and flash hole with media, as it will be uniformed/cleaned anyway. Tumbling prior to sizing also cleans the cases prior to entry into your expensive precision di...

Re: 17 HMR and PD's

VA: For what you want this rifle for, I'd say get a repeater, and forget the T/C thing, as in a hot PD town, the single shot will only frustrate you. Check out the new Savage M93 Stainless, Laminated, Thumbhole, looks great, shoots very well, and not too expensive. Also check out the CZ 452 or 453 ...
