Re: Gun Oil?
I've never tried the stuff but an advid pistol competitor told me once he swore by some stuff called FP-10. Target shooters keep those 1911's lubed to slow down the wear that loosens the lock up. It's been taken over by Shooters Choice and one of these days I'll pick some up and try it out. For me I...

Re: Remington question
My 700 VLSS (TH) needed something to bring out the full potential and in all probability it was the crown job that did the trick. I bought mine used on the gun rack at Cabelas and while there wasn't a scratch on it I did observe what appeared a nick/ding/divit (or a whack) on the muzzzle of the barr...

Re: Parallax issues?
Before you get to checking/looking at the scope make sure the load is a good accurate load in both rifles. I can say from my initial load testing days with a scope that parallax can effect groups (back then I didn't know what parallax it was) and if you can't adjust it out I would say its time to lo...

Re: Remington question
Hotshot, Right after posting the above I decided to ride over to the Leupold factory and check one out. Sure enough, out comes someone with a VX-L 6.5-20x56, matt black with red bowling ball look with the varmint reticle. Sure enough, it was thin but very easily seen even when I placed it against th...

Re: Has anybody tried this?
I know BR competitors who often switch out the barrels on their Rem 700 based rifles. The guys I know all seem to have the recoil lug pinned in place. Once their barrels are chambered and set up for it, they actually twist them on by hand, and "seat" them in place with a snap of the wrist...

Re: Remington question
Thanks Rick. Apparently the reticle in my Nikon isn’t responding (linear) when I turn the elevation knob and besides I’ve wanted to replace it anyway. Now I have an excuse ;) . This is primarily a bench gun unless, something goes south on my CZ-527. I’ve taken a real liking to B...

Re: Remington question
Davis, first of all welcome to the forum. As to your question I don't have that rifle but I do have the VLSSTH in .204 and she shoots great. It has the new X-Mark trigger on it and I adjusted it down to 1 1/2 lbs. Sage rats hate it! Gary http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s48/Captqc/Pasiley07K.jpg ...

Re: Mounting a Scope
Silverfox, Thank you, that was very informative. To be honest, most of my competitive shooting was with open Peep style military sights. Occasionally, I have had to shoot a M14 with what appears to be a canted front sight because the barrel wasn't quite indexed properly. Its's quite the challenge. W...

Re: looking for a match rifle
Guy,
Which side of the Cascades are you on? I was ATC service rifle shooter myself. I tried a few belly matches 600-1000 yards and its a challenge, although a good challenge is a M14 @ 1000 yards with the old 173 grain Special Ball ammo (this precceded the 118LR thats more common today).

Re: Sage Rat arsenal
Guy, If you have a good shooting 22 pistol bring it along. I take my S&W Model 41 along and it's blast hitting those little suckers out there beyond 100 yds with it. If possible, make sure you try various brands of rimfire ammo to see what shoots the best. To my (pleasent) surprise my Model 41 j...

Mounting a Scope
Seeing the bubble on Rick’s scope has got me to re-thinking about how critical scope mounting can be, especially getting it aligned straight. So, what types of tools and gadgets are out there? I just recently acquired one of the Wheeler Engineering Scope mounting kits with the two levels. It ...

Re: New scope choice?
I don't have any experience with them but a couple of folks that do really speak really high of them. The only advice I can give about optics is buy the best you can afford, and if need hold off to get a higher quality if need be.

Silverfox & acloco;
Thanks to each of you. I do have a question on this subject but I'll post it in the Optics area to prevent hijacking Rick's scope thats for sale.
By the way Rick, nice looking rig you have there.

Re: Carnage at the Orchard!
Guy, Those highpower skills sure come in handy don't they? My CZ is an American so I have to be careful to not shoot to fast because the barrel heats up pretty quick. My rifle wears a Zeiss 4.5-14x50 with a Z-Plex reticle. I stumbled onto this scope and I've thought about replacing it because of the...
