Re: 17 Fireball

The 17 HMR fires a 17 Gr V-Max bullet at a MV of 2550 ft/sec. The 17 Fireball fires a 20 grain bullet at a MV of 4,000 ft/sec. A box 50 ea of 17 Gr 17 HMR rounds are going for around $ 11.00 . The 17 Fireball 20 Gr ammo cost $ 24.00 per box of 20 ea. I purchased five boxes so that I would have 100 c...

Re: Ruger 77 target

I know of three out of the box Ruger 77 VT 204 rifles that fired 1/2 inch groups with factory 32 Gr bullets. If you get one try handloading the 39 Gr bullet. I have two old tang safety Rugers ,one a 22-250 ,the other a 220 Swift. I glass bedded the actions ,free floated the barrels , and adjusted th...

Re: 1st PD Shoot

The first time I shot a prairie dog back in the 1950s was with a Rem Mdl. 121 22LR w/a side mount Weaver 4X scope . That little slide action 22 LR was good for shots out to about 75 Yds. Back then one land owner would pay me 5 cents for each prairie dog that dident get back into their hole. Very few...

Re: M77 Ruger Trigger Adjustment

If your old Ruger rifle has a tang safety ,look for the adjustment trigger pull screw in front of the trigger. Turning the screw out a few turns will reduce the trigger pull.

Re: Hostility towards the 204

Tell them to go to http://www.remington.com and go to the ammo sction and compare the 204 Ruger 32 Gr bullet to the 223 Rem, 22-250, with the 50 Gr bullets. The little 204 is one fine round..

Tune Up

Some Reminton and other brand rifles need a tune up to get them to shoot small groups. Some things that can be don to get them be more accurate are free floating the barrel, glass bedding the action, adjusting the trigger down to about 3 Lbs, lapping the bolt locking lugs and re crowning the barrel ...

I purchased a Remington 700 LS 221 Fireball rifle a few years ago. To get it to shoot under one inch groups I glass bedded the action , free floated the barrel adjusted the trigger down from 6 Lb to 3 Lb and had a gunsmith lapp the bolt locking lugs. The face of the luggs were concave and only one l...

I purchase cases in lots of 100 ea . I full size the case ,cut them to the same length ,deburr the flash hole, ream the primer pocket, some times I will turn the necks .The last step is to use a RCBS electronic scale to seperate the cases into groups of 20 by weight. The last 100 Hornady 204 cases a...

The 17-221, 17 MachIV, and the 17 Rem Fireball cases must have about the same powder capacity. The Hornady Handbook Of Cartridge Reloading 6th Ed has the data on the 17 MachIV round. The max ft/sec muzzle velocity for the 20 Gr bullet was 4,100 and the 25 Gr bullet was 3,700 ft/sec. Looks like the r...
