Re: brass options

truckerwalt-- I know the Nosler brass is quite a bit more expensive than the Norma brass. Back in late 2009, I purchased 150 of the Nosler factory 2nds and 100 of the Nosler firsts. The factory seconds seem to be every bit as good as the firsts (in my humble opinion), but at quite a cost savings. T...

Re: Savage FV M12 & Berger HP's

brooksb-- The 35 gr. FBHP Berger bullets are a GREAT bullet for coyotes. The BC is a bit low, but at reasonable distances they work just fine. I'd hate to see you have to use your rifle as a single shot when a simple fix will get you up and running in repeater mode. Check out the information I have...

Re: bolt face to Lands Savage M12fv

Before you trade this rifle in on another, I think most 204 Ruger owners will tell you their factory chambers are cut so there is a whole lot of jump before the bullets hit the lands. I believe you will find a seating depth or two that will produce excellent accuracy. Just give it a chance.

Re: A few questions from the uk

Blacknsilver-- Reloading data for H4895 and IMR4895 CANNOT be used for interchangeably. Should I start a fresh with my own load experiment? It does shoot very well with these I have. If the load works great in your rifle and you feel safe in using someone else's reloads, I don't see any reason to c...

Another ND PD Hunt on 9-28-2016

Wednesday, September 28, 2016, I got a very late start for my intended prairie dog town because I hadn’t planned on going out after prairie dogs. The area I wanted to hunt at had received about 1.5 inches of rain over the weekend. The weather was real nice Wednesday morning and I thought that since ...

Re: ND PD Hunt on 9-16-2016

futuretrades-- I sure am happy you were able to come along for the ride. :D :D I have to agree that pulling the trigger and watching the RED MIST through the scope is a most gratifying experience!!! I really appreciate the Leupold VXIII 8.5-25x50mm with the varmint hunter reticle. All of my other L...

Re: ND PD Hunt on 9-16-2016

Sidewinderwa-- I'm hoping for a few more days with the boomstick so I can create a bunch more RED MIST!!! Unfortunately, it has been raining here the last few days and the prediction is for more moisture in the near future. I guess I'll have to head down to my reloading room and work on creating mo...

ND PD Hunt on 9-20-2016

I left Williston at 8:44 a.m. and arrived at my parking place on the west end of the dog town I was going to shoot in at 10:00 a.m. It had begun to rain when I was about 8 miles from the dog town. I had parked my pickup in the trees on the west end of the PD town and needed to check the point of im...

ND PD Hunt on 9-16-2016

The plan for last Friday, September 16, was to head out early in the morning for a full day of pottin’ prairie poodles . Unfortunately, the weather on Thursday turned very wet. My rain gauge in the back yard in Williston showed we had received .75" of moisture. I checked the rainfall total in t...

Re: Is there something wrong?

A couple of your fired primers looked like they could be flowing into the firing pin hole just a bit. Bushing the bolt would tighten up that firing pin hole. Some gunsmiths who bush bolts do a little work on your firing pin as well to make the fit between the firing pin diameter and the firing pin ...

Re: Is there something wrong?

Once you get the headspace checked out and fixed, if necessary, I would suggest that you think seriously about having your bolt bushed.

ND PD Hunt on 8-27-2016

Once again, I got a late start out of town for a PD hunt down on the National Grasslands south of Williston, but I was sure the prairie dogs wouldn’t mind if I was a bit late! I had three rifles that needed to have the point of impact checked and scopes adjusted if necessary so I pulled into the no...

Re: ND PD Hunt on 8-20-2016

Sidewinderwa--I have to agree that it is a blessing to live close to some prairie dog towns, especially when they are on private land and you are one of the few people allowed to shoot there!!!
