Re: H4895 V IRM4895

Because of the elongated grains of powder in the IMR powders, is the main reason for me. Try this just to see what I am talking about. Meter out say 26.5 grains of each powder, and using your funnel, drop the powder into your 204 case, Immediately you will see the problem getting the IMR powder to g...

Re: Is there something wrong?

If you can find a box of Remington, or some other name brandammo, I would try that before you get carried away on a bunch of gun smithing, and headaches, worrying about problems that may not be the gun itself.

Re: Is there something wrong?

I have to agree with Bill, but I sometimes see the same thing in my Howa, in 204. But my Howa has never seen a factory load, only my reloads. If it's really warm where you are, keep your ammo, at least in the shade. If it is sitting in the "hot" sun, that could cause over pressure. Been th...

Congrats, Guy, on an ethical kill and a nice Black Bear. That' s the way it should be done, one shot, one kill.

Re: COAL

If you are dealing with a SAAMI chamber, you will not be able to reach the lands. That being said, I have read somewhere that the excepted standard, when trying to get to the lands, you normally want, at least the diameter of the bullet, in this case, .204, you would not go less than .200 of the bull...

Re: Decapping die?

I have been using a Lee Collet, neck sizing die since I had to have Lee special make one for me, when I got my 204 back in 2007, I believe. Back then, all that was available was the standard dies. Lee was making that die for most other cartridges, but the 204 was a fairly new cartridge. Because I on...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

My apology, Steve, when I read your post about the firearms you loved being banned, I had it in my mind, that you were from down under. Like I said, I apologize for my mistake. It is still hard thinking about any firearm being banned to the public. But like I stated in my previous post, the people i...

Re: Finding brass

I guess I am very fortunate, because I have more 204 brass than most suppliers. More than enough to last my lifetime. But I planned on the shortages we have been seeing the last few years. More powder and primers in stock also. I should be able to defend myself from gubment overrunning my pos...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Welcome Steve, you can get a wealth of information from the members of this forum. I remember hearing and seeing the destruction of the many firearms, down under. Sad situation indeed. Made me cry seeing this! On that note, the people in this country need to wake up, or we may see the exact same sit...

Re: Reloading n00b. Where to start?

I think you are on the right track as far as looking at kits. Also look at the RCBS kits. Just make sure they come with every thing you need. Some things that don't come with most kits, that I can think of right now, include a caliper, a good primer pocket uniformer, and as far as case pad, I don't ...

Very well stated Rick! I did not want to seem like I am preaching, but the facts are the facts. I know who I am voting for, and it ain't the Hildabeast.

News from my gunsmith

I had to send my S&W revolver in to a gunsmith, in Texas, for some repair work. The good news, my revolver be will shipped before the end of the week. The bad news; He told me about some new laws concerning gunsmiths in Texas, and I would guess for all gunsmiths in the country He will now, as of...

Re: Bore solvent

For the carbon, I use a mix of Shooters Choice, 65 to 70% and Kroil, 30 to 35%. It does a really god job on the carbon and powder fouling. For the copper, I use CR10, after getting the carbon/powder fouling out. . After the barrel is cleaned, I us colloidal graphite in the barrel. For me the graphit...
