Re: Need primer help please!

Tejas, I have never heard of this primer, but I don't own an AR. But I don't think that they are "so" hard, that they wouldn't work in a bolt gun. If it was me, I would go ahead and load a few loads using that primer and make sure they are going to work in your bolt gun. All primers are de...

Re: 34gr cheapies!

I don't have any experience with said bullet. But if you can't find any load info, I would use the load info for the 32 grain bullets, and start at the minimal load suggested. You can find the best load for your rifle with some load workup. Good luck!

Re: 50 yard zero. How high at 100?

I always sight in at 100 yards. The only time I shoot at less than 100, is after scope mounting, and bore sight, just to get on paper. But like Bill stated, you will be approximately 1.25 or 1.50 inches high at 100. With a caliber like the 204, your holdover at say 200 yards should be minimal at bes...

Re: ND PD Hunt on 6-10-2016

Maybe I should just sell off a couple of my .204 Rugers and a couple of my .17 Remingtons, all of my M77 Rugers (one .22-250 and one .243) and build a couple of 20 VTs????? I don't think I would go that far, SF. I hate getting rid of any firearm. But, if it were me, I would consider, rechame...

Re: Sighting in

Bill is spot on. Normally if you sight in with a 39 or 40gr bullet, and then shoot the 32's, your poi will be higher than with the 40's. My suggestion would be to pick the most accurate load for your rifle, then sight in with that load. If you want to shoot a different bullet go ahead and shoot a ta...

Re: Changing Calibers

I have to totally agree with RIO! I have a VT and a 223 along with my 204. When I got my 204, I kinda quit shooting my 223. After talking to RIO, and a lot of research, I ordered a 20VT from Cooper. At that time we had no supplier for VT brass, so I had to learn a lot more than I really wanted to kn...

Re: Help with accuracy on a DTECH upper

The reason I didn't want to hand load is because I don't think the mag can handle a longer cartridge length. As is I wonder if the bullet tips get knocked on their way into the chamber. The nice thing about reloading, you can adjust the OAL to whatever length works the best in your rifle. I had to ...

Re: Help with accuracy on a DTECH upper

With a 1x10 twist, I would think it should shoot the 40's ok. But take a try with the 32's. Or if you can find some 39gr loads, even better. You mentioned a "good enough rest". My question here is, is that a "good" rest. Were you shooting off a bench, your pickup hood, off a tree...

Re: ND PD Hunt on 6-28-2016

Thanks a bunch, Silverfox. I did order one off their web site, after reading your post. Made for some interesting reading on their website. After reading what you said and what was on their web page, I decided, that it couldn't hurt to have one in my shooting bag just in case.
Thanks again!

Again, a great story of your adventures. Thanks for taking us along with you. I am curious about the "Barrel Cool" you mentioned here. Would like to know a little more about it. Where did you get this product. I have to be real careful with barrel heat when shooting out here. When in a tar...

Re: Good .243 bullet choice for mule deer

Although I don't own, or shoot a 280, My choice would be the 280 Rem. You will be shelling out some dough, so That would be my choice. I have hunted out here in the West all my life, and my rifle is a 270, w/130grn bullet. A mule deer is a large animal, and will take some punishment, before going do...

Re: .223 howa 20" .223 rem.

Why not shoot 5 shot groups? I don't think 4 shot groups really tell the truth about how well you or your rifle really shoot. Are you afraid that your groups will open up. I am not being a critic here, just curious. Just an observation. I am shooting a Howa in 204, so I know how well they shoot, wit...

Re: .204 Ruger Popularity?

I would suggest, buying loads in the 32gr, or 39gr. These seem to be the best shooting loads for the 204R. Not too many 204R rifles like the 40gr loads. Just a thought.

Re: SCOPE ZERO

I zero all my rifles at 100 yards. If I need to take a longer shot, I just take a SWAG, and am usually right on for the kill shot. My 20VT wears a Leupold VXIII with a VH reticle. and my 204 wears a Lupy VXII LR reticle, witch is basically a mil dot reticle. This scope I had customized at Leupold, f...

Re: ND PD Hunt on 6-10-2016

Thank you SF, for taking us along with you on you journey. Always enjoy your tales of eliminating vermin on the prairie. As for the trigger on your rifle and not really paying attention when getting set up for a shot, I know all about that! The triggers on all of my varmint rifles is around 13 to 15...
