Re: New barrel

We call them sage rats, or rats for short. They are Belding's Ground Squirrels who have a voracious appetite for alfalfa. A typical field has about 1,000 of them per acre. LOTS of shooting! We use 22LR pistols off the bench for the close ones, CF rifles for anything past 50 yards. https://imagizer.i...

Re: New barrel

Jim, P/N going strong again. Both Chris and Casey are hard at it, and with the new building, doing well once again. Glad, as they are my go-to outfit for barrels and action work. For your FL trip and hogs, what weapon will you use for that there? Got a guide, or going with friends? You know we'll ne...

Re: New barrel

Quick answer, no. It's an extended accuracy game. I've got plenty of experience on running/moving targets, trust me. As a young kid, and my dad being an outfitter/guide on our ranch in BC, taught me early on about leading moving targets. He'd roll an old tire down a hill with cardboard inside, and I...

Re: Winter wonderland

Glad to hear that Paul. That Boy Scout motto sure comes in handy when we experience chit like we're into right now. If these conditions were more prevalent, I'd opt for a Generac unit without any further thought. Thankfully, it's only once every few years for us here. Good to hear you're okay, as 49...

Re: Chasing Accuracy

That is interesting. I am happy to say I am doing over half of those things now. I dont weigh my cases. And I dont turn my case necks....but I have redding dies and do deburr the flash holes, trim to equal case length, and try to make everything as uniform as possible. Tom, it has been demonstrated...

Re: New barrel

My bad, you're right. I don't often hunt things that I not gonna eat. Same here Skipper, but keep in mind, we hunt for food also (deer, elk, antelope, birds), but when we're out in the rat patch, we're shooting , and not hunting. The 'hunting' part of what we do, is hunting for the next target thro...

Re: Winter wonderland

Zero here on the high desert of Orygun at present, with the "feeling like" temp at -6. We've got about 10" of snow now, with much more on the way.

Spring varmint shooting in the nice warm sunshine seems like another galaxy, far, far away right now. :?

Well okay, I hunted birds for 40 years, lots of great memories, but I was under the impression we were discussing rifles, barrels, and neck turning. :chin:

Jim White wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 6:51 pm Rick...did you change the barrels yourself or have someone do it for you? Just curious because I'm curious about the timing and cylinder alignment.

Thanks,
I had my local friend/smith do that. Not a job for the uneducated or unskilled if not familiar with setting a revolver up properly.

Re: New barrel

jsh, are you talking about neck turned cases? I just keep about 25 - 30 fully prepped cases on hand. I take care of them and only replace whenever in need. Once fired they are fire formed to my chamber and only get neck sized until the need to bump the shoulders back. I have no need for a thousand ...

Re: New barrel

You threw me Rick. Is the supposed to be 39 SBK instead of 30 grn ? Correct Bill. Good catch, just typing too fast. My error has been corrected, thanks. I'm not speaking for Rick, however if your smith creates a non-SAMMI chambering they will usually stamp the side of the barrel. My custom 204 Ruge...

Re: Winter wonderland

I don't take the cold like I did when younger, but I still like cool weather way better than the high heat you guys in Texas and Az get. Anything above 80 is to hot for me. :D Same for me Bill, and exactly why I live where I do. Humidity really kills me, as after a full year in RVN with super high ...

Re: New barrel

Well Jeff, you could call Pac-Nor for one of their SS Super Match barrels, and if you're after a tight chamber to match spec's, I'll give you my reamer print number that's on file there. You can spec out your barrel on their website, then call and work out the finer details. PM me if you want the pr...

Re: Winter wonderland

Woke up this morning to 10" on the ground. This is the result of me NOT buying a snow blower for years, saying if I did buy one, it would not snow for the next five years to any degree. Well, it's now been those five years, and guess what? :wall:

Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?

Plus one on the Lilja barrels. I'm amazed at the bench accuracy of this barrel. Right bolt left port has its advantages when shooting groups. Becomes second nature. And that configuration is the hot setup when bench shooting PD's or ground squirrels too. I wish more manufacturers offered that confi...
