range results

Post by terrace »

after a rough start and learning how to remove a stuck case from my die. I worked up some 20 vt loads using 32 gr.nosler bt lead free which neither of my 204's like. I started at 18 gr RL 7 and worked up in 1/10 increments to 18.7 gr . apparently the vartarg doesn't like them either nothing under 2 "
and some key holing ?

then I shot a 5 shot group with HSM 32gn v max

should I give up on the nosler BTLF's .

I would give the 32gr. Sierra Blitz Kings a try.

Yes it does suck ! And they are talking about the whole state going lead free
The hsm 32 vmax showed potential
I guess I will try the 26 gn varmint grenedes . Read this email from Barnes saying they can be loaded same as a 32 grain bullet

"Thanks for the email. We are in the process of shooting for our new
reloading manual and don't quite have the load data for that cartridge.
However you can use other published load data from Hodgdon or Hornady and
the 32gr bullet for use with the 26gr Varmint Grenade bullets. Use the
minimum load data to start. Working up in 1/2 gr. increments. Be wary of
excessive pressure signs, such as flattened primers, sticky bolt lift, or a
shiny spot on the base of the case. If you have case head expansion of more
than .0005" on a once fired case or .001" expansion on new cases, these are
also signs of excessive pressure. Then back down at least one full grain and
you will have a max load for your gun."

Glad we don't have to deal with that in WV. At least not yet.

Dunno' know the whole story on your rifle but WRT the lead-free bullets;

- Is the bearing longer than the lead version?
- Does any other bullet work out for you?
- I presume the bullet size is consistent (?).
- Have you tried different powder/primer combinations?
- Is the brass consistent, especially the neck?

Hope you get it figured out.

I measured 10 bullets all diameters were 204
eight were .751 and two were .749 long
Six weighed 32.2 two @ 32.1 and two @ 32.3

It was my first time sizing 221 fireball to 20 using a redding type s match die 226 bushing
Looking at the last picture 4 of 5 in one hole @ 100 yards with v max HSM ammo.
I think it got be the nosler lead free bullets. Neither of my 204's would shoot these either. Tomorrow I will load some varmint grenades

What is WRT ?

Could be the bullets. Sometimes it happens that no matter what, a bullet just won't shoot in a particular rifle. I had a Armalite AR-15 like that once.
