Single stage press vs turret

Post by TrapperDan »

For precision loading , Would a Redding T-7 Turret press be as accurate as a single stage press. My old Rock chucker has seen better days. :(

I will stick my neck out and give you my opinion.. I would say no, not as accurate as a single stage. Especially for precision loads/case's. I would stick to another Rock Chucker or look into RCBS's new single ram press. I have been thinking about adding one of these to my Rock Chucker and old, old CH single press. Bill K :)

I have measured loaded round runout on rounds reloaded on a Redding T7 - very good....actually impressive.

It did take a little tweaking to get the coenctricity though.

I load on a Forster CoAx for single stage reloading....and like it a LOT!

IMHO, if you are looking for precision reloads, and need, want, a new press, I would also recommend the Forster CoAx. About the only thing I don't like about this press, is the change over from small rifle to large rifle. Not a big deal for me anymore, as I hate the noise and recoil from the larger cases. If for some reason I feel the need, to take my deer rifle out of the safe, I have a couple hundred reloads for shooting any time I want! ;)

Dan, all my metallic cartridge turret presses are either Dillon or PW, used mostly for pistol and revolver cartridges. Almost all my CF rifle handloading is done on a Redding Ultra Mag press that replaced my worn out Rockchucker about ten years ago. That said, from what I know about the Redding T-7 press from others that have used that press for some time, and opinions I highly regard, I'd say it would make just as accurate/precision handloads in all regards as a single station. It is mostly likely the only turret press available in this catagory that I'm aware of.

John Barsness did quite a piece in Rifle Magazine some time ago on the T-7, and this mirrors his critical opinion also.

If you've got the hankerin' for a T-7, I'd say 'go for it'. :D
