221 fireball bullet weight

Post by triggerfingers »

I’m finally getting a 221 fireball rifle and was wondering what is the best bullet weight. Will be shooting both paper and and small varmints. What do you guys like?

In both my 221FB's (Cooper & CZ), I primarily use the rifles for both rock chucks and ground squirrels, with a jackwabbit thrown in on occasion. To that end, my primary bullets are both 40gr; the Nosler BT and their Varmageddon.

Typical accuracy is excellent in both rifles using both A2200 and my favorite for this caliber, RL-7:

I'm convinced the little FB is inherently an accurate round, and is great out to 350-400 yards on small varmints.
