I am having my Remington .243 ADL rebuilt, (heavy barrel, new stock, BDL conversion). I told the smith I wanted to use it for mainly hogs, varmints and possibly deer. With that in mind he put a 1:8 twist barrel on it. My question is what weight bullets would you load up in this rifle and what should I stay away from? Thanks...

Rich: With that twist, you'll have a wide range of bullet choices. Go on to the Pac-Nor, Lilja, Hart, or Shilen barrel sites, as all of them have twist charts that show what bullet will stabilize properly in any given twist.

You'll even be able to shoot some high BC VLD's with an 8 twist.

richnmib with that twist I would stay above the 70 gr bullets. In my 8 twist I can not shoot the lighter bullets at full speed, they will not make it to the target. The best groups I shoot are with the 95 and up bullet weights. My .243 AI will shoot any bullet above 85 grs at full speed.

75-87 grain Hornady Vmax's should work great for varmints. My 243's have 1-9 twists and shoot those bullets well. 87 vmax has a .400 B.C.
