Squeek and Rock Chuck hunt

Post by Bill K »

Varmint shooter and I had a very sweet morning in the pivots. 0600-0800 took over 100 each, then thought about checking out a couple rim rock areas, on the way back home, and found some chucks, took four each and left the rest that we saw in various areas. Did recover one of mine and I took a photo of VS coming back with one of his. Those rocks and areas are just too rough and far to look for all of them.

but it was getting hot, when we pulled out of the rocks at 1100 hrs. Bill K

Looks like it was a great day. I'm hoping to make it up that direction this weekend to get away from the valley heat. I'm still working on loads for the VT but having fun shooting it. Frustrating sometimes when you think you've got it all dialed in, something comes up and you're back to square one. Thanks for the great pics. R!

Randy. Both Varmint Shooter and I have some very fine loads for ours, in and around the 19-20 grains of AA2200 and the 24 NTX and 32 grain bullets. You should be able to find a sweet spot in your rifle right around that area also. Bill K

I should add that I took one on the left tip of that rim rock in the photo and Varmint Shooter took one on the far right end, just before it fades into the junipers. Ranged at 374 yrds. Bill K

Wow! That's really reaching out and touching someone. What rifle were you using?

Those were taken with the 17 Fireball. Both of us have worked up one each too add to our 20 VT's and Scc's. That little fireball is very impressive. Just when we said no more and stick to the 20's, we get into the 17 Fire ball over our 17 HMR's, it never ends.. Bill K

Sounds like a sweet set-up! I'm headed to Eagle Lake today and bringing the small arsenal with me in case the alfalfa has been cut where I usually go. Also bringing some reloading equip. so I can work up some more loads for the VT. I have something for varmint shooter and will try to make contact while I'm up there. R!

Great shooting in the Chuck's, I keep looking for some rim rock, but still looking. My brother has has a couple of good shoots last wk and a couple of days ago, so we're doing a two dayer starting Wednesday.
