221 fireball question...

Post by cshooter »

I saw a Remington 700 in 221 Rem fireball at a gunshow the other day. It had a 20" stainless barrel and poly stock for about $400 new. I about bought it, but did'nt know if it would be good enough for coyote. Anybody have any opinons ?

Yep a .221 Fireball will dump a coyote just fine.

As WrzWaldo replied, a .221 FB will work just fine for coyotes, PD's, sage rats, rabbits, badgers, etc. And, they are fun to shoot :D !
I bought a Stevens 200 in .223 Rem and yanked the barrel and installed a 24" HB in .221 FB. My favorite load for the FB is a Hornady 40 V-Max, CCI BR-4, and 17.9 grains of IMR4198. My Oehler 35P reads 3392 fps avg for 5 shots; chronograph screens were 10 ft from the muzzle. Accuracy runs about 0.4" - 0.5" for 5 shots at 100 yds. Bottom line, the rifle generally shoots better than I do.
