BATF finally did something rite…

Post by RoadKill »

… for Contender and Encore lovers. Until recently, it was technically illegal to switch back and forth between handgun and rifle setups on your T/C frame. It never got challenged in court but apparently we no longer have to worry about being the test case. I’m not very familiar with the AR’s but I think some of the changes may also apply to them.

Here’s a link for the legal dribble in pdf.

Enjoy.

Now if they and Holder will just stop selling weapons to Mexico and blaming gun shows and all the general dealers (Do not forget their Fast and Furious program) they just might do more things right. Bill K :P :P

Bill: It will be interesting to see just how far the Senate investigation gets into this one, as the Nobama admin is stonewalling and being as uncooperative as is possible to hinder and retard the process. Think they can make it last two years? I do. :?

Sad to say but I agree with you. They will keep it under wraps, etc. as much as they can and try to have it forgotten. Hope NRA and other groups keep it in the limelight. People need to see and read the truth. But the Obama/Holder admin will try their best to cover it up. Bill K :)

ANY body that expected good things from this man was a fool. Sorry to any of the good Members here that voted for him but it's true. I refused to drink his Kool Aid & will continue to do so. I also have the same thoughts on this that are expressed above.

I am not smart by no means but I read right through him in the beginning. He did nothing and voted nothing here in Illinois.
There was a guy who voted for him and I quote what he said "I voted for hope and now I feel like a dope"

If what this administration wasn't so serious, it would be funny. They are a big joke. But they are about as funny as a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.   :muffy:

This ruling change may be the only thing they EVER did close to right, finally. My T/C Arms Catalog 20 (1993 copyright) announces “The U.S. Supreme Court has recently ruled that it is legal to sell and use the Contender Carbine Conversion Kit … used to legally convert the Contender Pistol to a Carbine.” It failed to mention that once that pistol frame was converted to carbine configuration, we were not allowed to change that frame back to pistol configuration (creating a pistol from a rifle) unless licensed at great expense to be a “creator” of handguns. Slick way of getting another HANDGUN (even though it was a five pound 18” overall scope sighted single shot Super 14) off the street before IT forced its owner to do evil. Eighteen years ago was also about the time that just hearing the name “Brady” started to give gun owners that sickly feeling.

Just because Nobama (and friends) knows that our firearms sneaking in from the U.S. are at the root of all evil in Mexico and he needs proof to back his own statements, why should anyone think he or whatever is in charge at BATFE would know anything ...(caricature removed)...? They have gotten so dirty their own Agents are ratting them out. I could have saved a bunch of money by long ago doing a Lifetime Membership with the NRA, but since I’m now too poor to continue donations I instead have chosen to at least pay the higher cost of maintaining a yearly membership, for my lifetime.

“If Obama has the answer, it must have been a stupid question.” (Not mine, but too true.)
Expecting too much I reckon. 9/8/11 GWN

Roadkill. We are all free to discuss and offer our own opinion. But I would like to see this site not go downhill or level it's standards, by using wording like "A bunch of dead Mexicans" and "One lousy Federal agent".. Maybe just my opinion, but not necessary to word it that way. Sorry if I offend you, but we can disagree without going beyond civil. Bill K

Bill K – For the most part no offence was intended and none is taken. While I can’t honestly say I apologize for stepping on Obama supporter toes, my commentary does contain tons of intended sarcasm which some might misinterpret. I’ll try to do better in the future. It is certainly NOT how I personally view the murder of the innocent of citizens in Mexico or especially our Federal Agent by criminals using firearms caused to be supplied by those directing a BATFE plan where the intent was to legitimize the political view of the President who will obviously go to great lengths to disarm all law abiding American citizens, except his own military and police of course. He is cause to worry about how well any of our individual rights will survive the remainder of this administration and those to come. I am appalled by the number of, including too many gun owners, people that have and/or still are willing to go along with so much of the anti-gun nonsense backed with distorted or no factual evidence including Obama’s blaming of U.S. sourced arms for the evil done by criminals in Mexico. The problem this time is Obama knew he was right as he, through that crazy BATFE plan, DID cause the supply of offending firearms to cross our border into Mexico, and they “got caught” only because of investigation into the murder of our Agent. I perceive a “so what, anything for the cause” attitude from the administration but he and his know nutin and we’ll ferget and it’ll all go away by the next elections. Hoping you all will be there too. RoadKill

Exactly what I meant. We totally agree on Obama. He is Hoover #2, probably will even become #1, with Hoover not ruining the U.S. as Obama will do. People will suffer and die because of his policys and total lack of care. So I am afraid "We the people" can not change the attitude in Wash D.C. So back to varmint, load testing and enjoying our sport/s as long as we can do so. So all of us should try to stay healthy, shoot straight and keep our powder dry "As they Say". Bill K

For the record, it's been TWO Federal agents, Brian Terry and the guy who was killed in Mexico, while unarmed at the behest of the Mexican Gov't.

Also for the record, if your T/C frame was bought as a carbine, it’s still technically a no-no to configure it as a handgun. The change applies only to going rifle (and back) with your handgun frames.

I only hope someone is watching out for those Agents that spoke out against this nonsense.
Don’t get me started on this #%$@!*…
